1400 beer tokens is alot for a chanter even with four keys !!!

RORY

Hi,

I have reduced the price to 1300 euros. which is more reasonable, even if I paid more when I bought it..It also comes with 3 reeds, one from Aebi and 2 made by Alan Burton. Pictures & sound coming soon !

Cheers,
Sylvain

1400 euro doesn’t seem particularly high for a decent four-key chanter. For instance, Rogge’s pricelist lists a four key chanter at 900+440 = 1340 euro, before tax (at 16%). Given Tom’s fine reputation and tiny output, it seems reasonable to me.

Thats not to expensive at all. Wait untill you hear it play. Than you know what I mean.

A pipemaker would say that ,would,t he .!!!

You can get four keyed chanter plus a bag and bellows from Chris Dixon for 970 euro ,that seems reasonable to me !!

This Aebi chanter is top knotch stuff. Possibly the best concert pitched chanter I’ve had for sale on my site.

Patrick.

I’m not in the market for a chanter but I haven’t heard of Thomas Aebi and a google search didn’t show much. I read he makes flutes. I also haven’t seen cocobolo with that red streak either, but I’m new to all this piping business. However if Pat D’Arcy endorses it thats good enough for me.

He makes phenomenal flutes.

Doc

If I had the money to do as I pleased, probably one of the first things I’d do is order an Aebi flute…and maybe a chanter to go with it! I knew he had apprenticed with Rogge, but I wasn’t aware that he still made pipes at all. I wonder how rare this chanter is?

It certainly looks lovely…and bear in mind that Sylvain Barou is a top-notch player, so whoever gets it is not likely to be getting a lemon…

Well, gosh…If I were right handed and hadn’t just sent off a considerable amount of money for a new Galloway chanter, I might just have snapped it up myself.

Tom Aebi (Switzerland) is definetly one of the greatest flute makers, pretty well known in Britanny and anywhere else in France, due to his location and the exceptionnal quality of his production.

Many flute players here switch to Aebi flutes nowadays.

Sylvain Barou is one of our best ITM players in France, please go to flute forum to collect information about Sylavain or Tom.

So you can trust any of his words, when he says it’ worth 1400€.

Patrick emphasizes that point with his traditional skillness.

Neither Sylvain nor Tom need my contribution of course. Just my own advice.

Best regards.

I had a chance to play this exact chanter. Yes,it came to Japan(not for me,but for one of my friend).

It had a AlanB reed inside and played powerful and perfect in tune.Solid intune Bottom D without anything in the bell, strong backD,nice both 8ve Es. Sounded quite loud with the current reed.
The keywork was elegant and smooth and was in feather touch. I was very very impressed with the quality of the chanter.

This was my first time to see an Aebi chanter, but it must be a good buy if someone came across his stuff. Is he takig orders for UPs currently?

That chanter is yet another example why I love the cocobolo boxwood combination so… it doth pleaseth mine eyes.

So was it sold on ebay?

@ Innerhand: I’m sure he’ll take orders for chanters.
