[newbie] I found it

I was digging around in my toolbox yesterday, and I found the whistle that I bought 3 years ago the last time I tried to learn – an old, slightly corroded Sweet Tone, apparently from before Clarke started to paint them different colours (you know, for kids).

I do have a few other newbie questions for anyone who is listening

What is the consensus on high G whistles? I’ve only ever seen a generation one around here, and i’m wondering if it’s decent enough to try.

I’m trying to compile a list of CDs to watch out for from all of the various newbie posts recently, but if there’s any other ones, I’d love to hear about them. One thing I’m looking for is a good songbook/CD combo where the tracks on the CD are worth listening to on thier own – I have the Walton’s Guiness pack with the book and CD, and I find the recording to be rather mechanical and dry.

Unless you’ve got tiny little lady-hands they are unplayable. The high F by Generation is great, but a D is more than enough for someone starting out.

Hey there, Kuranes, and welcome!
As far as a high G whistle - I have the brass and the nickel Generations. As far as whether or not you should try one… Keep in mind the tone holes are spaced quite close to each other, which is definitely a problem if you have chubby fingers like me! And you’ll likely need ear plugs while playing one because they are very piercing - sweet, yes, but very piercing! :boggle:

Tyghre has threatened to banish me to the shed out back if I ever bring a G whistle into my/his life.

The best high G I ever saw/played/loved was a teeny tiny Thin Weasel that I covet.
