I woke up this morning with a cyst
on my side a little larger than a
large grapefruit, and it being a
Sunday there was noplace to go
except to the emergency room. Having
had previous experience with the
hours usually spent in waiting
rooms, I went prepared with
electronic games and my tweaked
Clarke. Since there were oxygen in
use signs all over the place, I was
left with only my whistle to while
away the time. So, in the exam room,
I played my very quiet whistle VERY
quietly (of course never in the the
second octave, but I was able to
practice phrasing and fingering,
anyway), and then I played outside
the entrance while waiting for my
ride home (it was cool today, only 105°F, but I was in the shade).
Now, is this whistle addiction or
what? How desperate does one have to
be to play in an emergency room? Am
I curable or already beyond hope, do
you think?
Diagnosis: Insect bite
(unspecified), probably a spider. I
have a three-page long list of
instructions to do and stuff to
watch for, but I will live to play
my whistles again…and again…and
again.
But
I’m just a beginner, so what do I
know…
