Hi everybody!
I’m Marco, from Venice. I play mostly string instruments and melodeon, but play also some whistle and bagpipes. Lately i wanted to approach the irish flute, so the forum has been very helpful in understanding more what to look for!
I managed to grab this old Rudall style flute from a guy here in Venice, and he doesn’t know much about It, only that It was his grandpa’s flute and that Is artisanal. Got It for 170€, i think it’s not that bad
After fixing the tenon and oiling the bore it plays quite well i have to say! And After improving the embouchure I’m confident i’ll have even more fun!
The thing about this flute Is that i don’t really know much about It.
It has to be quite old, at least from the ‘80s or ‘70s, the wood Is a very dark Brown and dense one, and looks like It has a shellac finish or similar.
I can’t find a makers mark, but i think the middle tenon cover Is quite unique (while bring aesthetically debatable) and might help in knowing more about the flute.
Maybe some of you guys know something about this instrument! I would love to learn more about It.
