My New O'Brien Arrived!

I am a real fan of David O’Brien’s whistles. Just got my beautiful new Eb Blackwood and it’s got such a pure and lovely tone. Right now my O’Brien’s are my favorite ones to play when I play acousticually. Plus David is a great guy to deal with.

Way to go Emrys! Didn’t you buy an O’Brien back in the summer about the time I bought the Rosewood set from him?

Yes, you got that right. This is my second from David. I loved the first one so much… it was actually part of a two whistle trade that we made for a silver Copeland of mine.

Wow!!! those rosewood whistles are GORGEOUS. I adore rosewood. Had a beautiful harp out of the stuff many years ago.

I wonder if I’m the only one that tells myself with each new whistle: this is it. Now I have all I need and want…

Yeah, i told myself that several times after getting my Rose. Then i ordered another Rose in case anything happens to that one. Then i encountered banjos and three piano accordians in the pub last month and thought i need something louder so i then bought a yew wood Bleazey (stunning whistle too). Now i like to think again that i own all i really need, but…

Congratulations, Em. You probably need just one or two more, now, to complete your collection…

I love cheapies and do most of my playing on a clarke and a dixon trad…but there is something magical about a fine hand-made instrument. So much of the maker goes into them that they almost live and breathe. They have a history. And they are beautiful.
Enjoy!

Tom

Congrats, Emrys!
My O’Brien C in Bocote has this incredibly nice sound, just the correct “chirp” on ornaments and great balance in volume between the octaves. And my wife says it’s gorgeous!
