Music Stores in Chicago

Hi Folks,
does anyone know the location of music stores in downtown
Chicago that sell whistles and other traditional instruments?
Also, the location of any good Irish/Scottish/British pubs?

Cheers,

Colin

This guy (click here) has all sorts of things including whistles. You may find things like gold-plated Chieftain low Ds, rosewood occarinas, even the occasional set of uillean pipes. You may have to ask for them, because chances are you’ll see first the Generations and the cheapo made-in-India lows that injure your fingertips when you play. He’s pricey but really not too much. I only know personally the 226 S. Michigan Ave location (downtown, almost across the street from the Art Museum). I pop in from time to time to see the weird instruments and talk with the owner. He usually lets me play stuff.

If you’re into handmade guitars, he has some amazing instrumetns there.

As for pubs: The Kerry Piper is not downtown Chicago, but south of the city. I mention it because it has a fairly good session on Wednesday nights, and i’m usually there playing the flute.
