Music at Matt Molloy's

On track two is a set of Cape Breton jigs which don’t sound like they’re played on a D whistle. Does anyone know? I’m thinking maybe an E whistle. I want to learn them by ear and it would help if I have the correct whistle.

(Pulls out MP3 and checks.) It’s an Eb.

Oh good, E’s are much harder to find. Thanks.

Of course, if you aren’t anchored too deeply against it, with a good ‘slow downer’ program, you could learn it in D.

Its even easier slowed down to B.

Really? I must’ve lucked out. Was at the Podium one day, idly looking through their selection of Gens, and there it was, an Eb, just sitting there looking at me. It had to be destiny, I guess. Got a soprano F that day, too. Believe it or not, it’s come in handy.

Right, Eb’s abound. I can pick one up at the local shop tomorrow. But E’s are rarer.

You mean a good slow downer program can change the pitch of all the notes down a half step? I only use the one that comes with Media Player. I don’t have a fancy one.

Audacity’s free, and it can change pitch.

Oops, sorry. Misread you. Don’t mind me.

Of course.

Transcribe! rocks.

You owe me so many drinks by now, my liver’s taken out insurance.

Hehehe. So when are you coming to NYC? I’ve started a Drinks for Nano collection at work.

A collection? You are deep of pocket and short of arm. I’ve decided to bring the pipes after all. :smiling_imp:

Post deleted because of stupidity.

According to thesession.org, it’s “Charlie Hunter’s”.

Perhaps you’re thinking of the similar tune “Andy Dejarlis’”, which is frequently given as “Jerry Holland’s”?

DOH!

I used to know that.

Thanks for straightening me out. I’ll go see if I can delete that post so no one gets confused. Maybe Jerry played it or something, but …

Thanks, Sol. And again, my apologies. I’d better take Sonja’s advice!

P.S. Have you seen the “Brockumentary” yet?

Oh, no worries – you got me to look up the name of “Charlie Hunter’s”, which I didn’t know until I searched thesession. Much better than calling it “Cape Breton Jig #1” as I had been.

P.S. Have you seen the “Brockumentary” yet?

I have, it circulated very quickly in our gang, as you might have imagined.
