Is the Murray website gone? (did I already ask this question…? Hmm can’t recall)
Indeed looks bleak “This domain may be for sale. Backorder this Domain”
My guess is that someone forgot to renew the domain fee..
Yeah. I’ll ask him about it in a few days…
when i saw him he said it went down while he was sick/in the US
He said they’ll have to rebuild the website, which is not going to happen before September…
This is good to know! I herd some rumors based on the disappearance of the site, and as a Murray owner, it’s great to hear all is well with Sam. I’m hoping the sickness was only a temporary ailment!
“I’m hoping the sickness was only a temporary ailment!” Brazenkane.
What was/is the ailment, amnesia? Sam’s been repairing the barrel of my keyless for two years now
Steampacket:
Your flute must be on the same shelf as mine. Sam has had it since March 2012 and no word from him on progress since September 2012 when he emailed me saying only 10 more days before shipping.
“Steampacket: Your flute must be on the same shelf as mine. Sam has had it since March 2012 and no word from him on progress since September 2012 when he emailed me saying only 10 more days before shipping.” cquick.
Sorry to hear that but I’m afraid we are not the only ones. Sam said the flute was ready and to send 20 euros for postage in Februry, 2012. So foolishly I did, but no flute turned up. Was in Milltown Malbay recently for Willie Week and rang Sam’s mobile but, surprise, it was disconnected. I’m fortunate as I have other good flutes to play on, and there are folks in this world with real, and much bigger problems, so I don’t mean to go on a Sam Murray rant. It does go strangely quiet in Ireland when the matter is taken up though. An elephant in the room?
That’s just ridiculous! Was his son not working with him? There’s got to be a way to get your flute(s) back!??? Why not make some kind of concerted effort, perhaps find someone who lives nearby to be an advocate on your behalf/etc?
I’ve had a few private requests of this sort. I’m often up for uninterested kindness to strangers, but the number of people needing to contact Sam is indeed very high and he’s very easily irritable, I had to be extremely careful last time and I’m not eager to repeat the experience, especially now while he’s making a flute for a friend. I will try to carefully bring his attention to these past orders after he’s done with my friend’s flute but I won’t insist too much as I also care for my personal well being, hope you all understand.
That’s very kind of you Lorenzo, but don’t make life difficult for yourself, as I understand you live in Galway and it can get weird. A friend in Clare has offered to help, but I realise it’s not so easy when you live in an area where everyone knows of each other in the irtrad communitiy, and also being Ireland, prehaps some heavy people could be involved, one way or the other I don’t know. It is what it is.
This makes me so sad.
Lorenzoflute, “personal well being?”
It’s nice to know he’s still making flutes!!! Is his son still involved?
Sorry if English is not my first language. I wasn’t sure of that expression in the first place but I thought it sounded cool so I used it anyway…
Is his son still involved?
He is. He does most of the work and he’s the one that is (not) taking care of emails.
If there are so many people trying to use Lorenzo to intercede then something is indeed wrong.
Is there such a thing as Trading Standards office in Ireland where people could contact to make a complaint re non return/ unacceptable delay in return of instruments.
Given the concerns expressed on this and other forums then perhaps people who are considering purchasing a new instrument or having one repaired may thing twice about doing so. Perhaps if orders dry up then things may improve though that does not necessarily help people with instruments already in the system.
Orders seem to not dry up, as they turn out great sounding flutes. Just a bad situation all together!
ps I’m over the moon with my Murray flute, and consider myself very fortunate to have a crackin Murray flute!

I have had lots of dealings with Sam over the years. He is a brilliant maker - a wonderful craftsman and as sweet a guy as you’ll ever meet. He is a generous man with no malice in his heart. That said, there are issues, as with most things in life. I’m sorry for all the troubles people have had in that regard. It is hard to be understanding and forgiving when you feel as if you are being ripped off. But ripping people off is not what Sam is about, though it might seem so. I hope it all gets resolved in the near future.
