Mid-east Low D Whistles

Hello all! I’ve been thinking about picking up a low whistle, but since I’ve never even seen one in person, it makes it a bit difficult to determine whether I’d really enjoy it or not. After reading the glowing reviews of Mid-East’s cane flutes, I figured I’d pick one up.

Ah, but then I checked out Mid-East’s website. In addition to the cane whistles, they’ve also got a nickeled-brass low d. It seems very pretty and 90% less likely to get me accused of being a dirty hippy. However, it’s $36, which is just a bit more than I’d like to spend on something that I’ve found no opinions or reviews on.

So, has anyone played one of these guys?

there’s a few reviews out the, for the most part they tend to be a bit out of tune, I’ve head theyre are generally in tune with themselves but not in tune with anything else.

Thanks! 99% of the time I’ll likely be playing by myself so I suppose absolute tuning won’t be that much of an issue. However, I’ve got the opportunity to get a Susato Eb for the same price. I generally prefer an edgier tone, but getting a nice name-brand whistle on the cheap seems pretty appealing, even if it is in a bizarro key.
