I have been visiting Marcus, and i did some videos…
I will add some more
Them babies HONK.
never played one of these, but they sure appear likeable
Marcus Hernon. I believe he’s the man who said “I like to have something to push against. . .”. Those clips sound like a pair of very determined lips meeting a well cut embouchure!
Bob
I enjoyed those clips!
I’ve never heard of his flutes before, either.
By the way, just curious, what’s the tune they play right after Maids of Mt. Kisco?
Had a Hernon Rudall not long ago. Greatly regret letting it go.
I recently traded my low whistles for a Hernon flute and the flute is a cannon!!
I am a relative beginner but with this flute I am finally starting to enjoy my own playing, volume and tone!
Ketil
I had one for about a week, which I had to return to Doc Jones because I discovered I’m allergic to blackwood. If it had been made of a different wood, I probably would have kept it, but life has taken me down different roads since then. It had “traditional” Rudall tuning, and took some warming up and practice to play in tune, especially since I was struggling against a swollen lip, but it sure sounded great. I’d love to have one again, if I were in need of a flute.
It´s possible to get a flute from Marcus in different timber. It is not listed on his website as a option, but he can make a flute for you in whatever timber you like. You can see an example on the frontpage. Thers a picture of 3 headjoints. One blackwood and two cooktown ironwood.

“Cocktown” Ironwood?!?!? Don’t think I’ve ever been there. Then again, some might say different ![]()

Don’t get cocky, even when in Cookstown ![]()
Cocktown" Ironwood
That’s what they play in those “adult sessions” isn’t it? ![]()

I don’t give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way.

I can ask Marcus if he´s willing to make a flute out off…
Ooops, wot a cook-up! Seriously, though, Marcus is some player. Lips of iron and no mistake.

I realize that, because it said so on his website. But I had bought a used one, and returned it, and decided to stick with the delrin flute I also had at the time.
The video of Conal and Marcus aren’t helping my flute acquisition disorder! Seriously considering it ~ but how many flutes does a person really need? or more likely, afford. ![]()
