Flute videos

Found a good one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8db_RRCf4Y

I suggested earlier that we could make a sticky post for all the Irish flute videos floating around the net where everyone can post them when they find them, but that didn’t seem to stick. It would make it a lot easier to see what has been posted allready, and to see which ones you have missed yourself.
So, if a moderator is reading this, please consider making it a sticky post.

BTW, I’m looking for the video of Kevin Crawford playing Colonel Frasiers on the Bb flute, the video used to be up Custy’s site, but I can’t access the videos there any more. Does anyone know any other place to find this video?

Great idea

Matt Molloy & Donal Lunny - Bucks of Oranmore (1977)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHcDY76a_eY

Great view of his hands.

Nice!
I think he is playing a Eb flute in the clip, or he has real big hands… Looks like the old band instrument that he spoke of in a interview at: http://www.tradcentre.com/mattmolloys/interview.html
Maybe a Hawkes & Son or a Boosey & Co. Eb ?

any tech people here , who can advise how to , or if it is possible , to save these youTube vids to somewhere on the computer ?

i live in an area where , on a good day , the connection speed is 31kbps. so i head for the high speed town of Athlone , (yippee) to look at this stuff .

Jim, maybe this is what you are looking for?

I haven’t tried it myself, because I perform a different trick that works for me. I just click on the pause button [||] and wait until the video is fully preloaded. Then a click on the play button reveals the full video without the nasty disruptions. Of course, the video exists only temporarily in the internet cache and is not permanently available off line.

Try http://videodownloader.net/ if you’re using Firefox. That plugin is very handy, I use it myself (already saved the Matt Molloy video ).

Danke Sehr ! i’ll give those a lash , and will let you know how it goes .
ah yes , those Germans are very, very clever .
gute jungen , ich danke euch .

Laictin Naoifa Ceiliband : Junior Crehan, Christy Dixon. Michael Downes, Paddy Galvin (fiddles), Michael Sexton (accordeon), Jimmy Ward (banjo), Michael Falsey (pipes), JC Talty (flute)

Is that the Jimmy Ward of “Jim Ward’s Jig”?

I do love these old recordings. Everything seems to remain basically the same.

BTW Isn’t that lady at 1:05 the Queen Elizabeth? Look like having the time of her life!!

Thanks for the post Henke, great idea. Second the “sticky” issue.

My turn (already seen here, but great tone):

Somebody shoot the foot tapping lad.

He is, he lilted the tune for one of Ciaran MacMathuna’s programs during the late 50s and the tune caught on from that.

He was from Kilfenora but lived in Miltown Malbay for a long time, played the banjo with several bands like the Kilfenora and the Laictin Naoifa.

There are a few nice images of him in the Clare library collection but they won’t let you insert them in the posts this is one though:

Ah, thanks Peter. Nice to know that, as it’s one of my favourite jigs.

And another video…

Marcus Hernon playing one of his flutes:
