"March of the King"

aka Mairseail Ri Laoise, I was looking for an alternate suggestion for the part (in my book, key of D) that drops down to C# below bottom D on the pipes. The section in my shows: E (dotted 8th)Cnat(16th)G(8th) & E (8th)low Cnat(8th)E(8th) in one measure and then in the next: G (dotted 8th)Cnat(16th)G(8th) & E(8th) low Cnat(8th) E(8th).

If you can figure out which section Im talking about, Id like suggestions on how anyone else plays that part. (last 4 measures of each section.)

Thanks for any help

ECG EGE l GCG EGE l DDD DDD l DDD DDD

Hope that helps. The final Ds are cranns.

I believe some people cran the E as well.

Sort of like:

EEE ECG l EEE EGE l DDD DDD l DDD DDD

Not quite sure how you write a cran in this notation but you could play the second E of each bar as 2 Es half the length of the others.

Yeah, mix it up for variety’s sake. I hadn’t thought about cranning the E; nice idea.

Don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit:

EcG EGE | EDE GFE | D ~D2 D ~D2 | D ~D2 D ~D2 |

It’s a wounderful tune. I’ve heard it played as a March, a reel, even as a slow air (don’t tell Uilliam) :astonished: . Definately worth adding to the repertoire.

Thanks all for the help

When I play that tune I usually jump between the octaves in the last part, first measure, ie E and D. gives it a nice variation before entering the second measure…(my opinion)
