Hello to all!!
I’m looking for tunes to play on my low G&D whistles.
What are your favorite tunes to play on your low whistles?
What are some easy tunes to start off with?
Thanks to all!!

I play whatever I want to. I do not know if anything sounds better on a low D than a slow aire though.
Low whistle is good for the long wailing notes, finger vibrato, slides, etc, so slow stuff sounds good. But the same kind of stuff sounds good on high whistle too.
Check out http://www.tenrecmusic.com/multimedia.htm for a couple of sound clips and tune ideas. This guy is pretty darn good – okay, really, really good, if you’re reading this RICHARD
– on the low whistle.
Personally, I also like Breton tunes and stuff; other faves include
The Last Pint
The Crested Hens (really quite nice)
The Banks of Lough Gowna or any other sort of minor-y, slip-jiggy-thing
Kid on the Mountain
Drummond’s Castle
And, as it does on Richard’s recording, for some reason the Musical Priest just rocks on the low D (although he plays it lots better)
Good luck!
Oh, and to the slow air point … Cape Clear is very nice on the low D.
On low whistles I prefer slower stuff. Oddly though, I have “The Low Whistle Book” which is full of the traditional jigs and speedy stuff…none of which IMO, show off a low to best advantage. Some carols are nice seasonally, such as “O Holy Night,”…and moody, Titanic-y stuff.
