Help! easy songs for low D?

Okay, so I can now play a few hymns on my low D whistle, but it seems that i still need work with getting used to the finger spread, pipers grip, etc… anyway I have a book of airs to play but some look intimidating to me still, and I can’t really play the reels and jigs and stuff that I play well on my high D…

so I was looking for some suggestions as to what songs to try and learn… I want slow stuff, not too many octave jumps yet- you know just some “easy” songs or airs that will let me and my low D to get to know each other better…

so if anyone has any suggestions as to song titles, etc… that would be fantastic… I would greatly appreciate it

Easy slow airs ok Here we Go:
Oh Danny Boy :You HAVE to learn this anyway
Spancil Hill: Make Ya Cry
The Foggy Dew: Good Practice for Rolls
The Sally Garden: short and to the Point
The Minstrel Boy: Can be tricky
South Wind: Uh…
The Arronmore Boat Song:…
Greensleves
Amazing Grace
Silent Night
McDermotts Lament: I have the ABC for this…
I’m sure there’s lots of others, but you asked for Easy airs… There’s a good starters list…

Simple Gifts is great practice.

King of the Fairies and Tabhair Dom Do Lamh (Give me your Hand) are two easy and musical tunes.

Seamus O’Brian’s Waltz
The Butterfly
Planxty Dale Wisely
Twisting of the Hayrope
The Parting Glass

Song of the Chanter…I can’t think of anything easier.

Thanks guys for the suggestions-

I have been working on Danny Boy, and simple gifts is one of my favorite songs… I’m hoping to get this low D down well enough so later this spring I can play some stuff for church services…
