Loren is Mean, Loren Is Sour Grapes, Blah, Blah, Blah

If anyone has a Sam Murray flute they’d consider selling at a reasonable price, please send me a PM or email.

Thanks much.

Loren

Hold on a moment, please. Wasn’t Sam Murray the one who made all sorts of “modified” flutes, and, if so, then which configuration could you be looking for?

I know someone that has a Murray in Boxwood, but the boxwood is a little discolored… :poke:

I have an unreasonably priced 3-key Murray with ivory crown and foot-joint cap. It’s for sale at an unreasonably high price.

Yeah, I happen to be wildly allergic to that particular flute - to the point of not being able to breath properly for months after playing it. Damn shame, I really hated having to part with that flute.

It’s very sad that the flute was not properly cared for by someone who had possession of that flute prior to when I acquired it. It’s also too bad the Boxwood had so much bluestreak mold present to begin with, hence the discoloration.

Oh well, it’s still a wonderful playing and sounding flute, for those who don’t have asthma.

Loren

 I knew for certain you would!

Now, if I had an unreasonably large bank account or income, I’d probably buy it. However such is not the case I’m afraid.

Actually, come to think of it, I’d just hop on a plane to Galway and do my best to chat Sam out of a flute in person if I had an unreasonable amount of money, since it would give me a good excuse to go over to the Ireland for the first time anyway.

No matter though, we can no doubt sell your 3 key in the course of this thread as well Cocus, who’s game for that Murray?

Loren

Sorry, I’m still waiting for my bank account to accommodate that flute of Cocus’s
I haven’t given up on myself yet…

M

Well Loren, you can have a new Sam Murray in your hands next week if you’ve got the cash.
I was actually thinking about getting one.
A friend at a local session said give Powell Music in Galway, Ireland a call, they usually have them in stock.
I called up and they did.
I asked how much… they replied 1150, so I was ready to order it, but as it turned out the 1150 was Euro’s not $… In dollars thats about $1600!
For that amount of money for a keyless Flute Loren, I’d expect the Flute to get up and make me Breakfast in the morning!
Ben Shaffer :boggle:

PS… incidentally do a search on Sam Murray Flutes on YouTube and you’ll pull up something interesting

If you had my Murray flute you’d play it all night long and miss breakfast.

Damn it, Man!!!

And here I am, counting my pennies!
Now, everyone will want it!

M

That has to be the loudest Boxwood Rudall I have ever played. Maybe a little lavender oil will kill the mold? I like the blue streaks, kind of a camo look.
I am re-working the sockets, as they are a little loose, and some of the keys needa little shoring up, but it is a great flute.

I had to get the Murray playing, now that the topic came up… Not mine, just working on it…

Is that all it takes? Let’s talk about Wylde flutes, then.

Kevin Krell

Working on it Kevin, it will be awesome… Your flute needs a little more work, then re-threading…

I expected it to take a long time, plus you’ve got to measure it and play it to your heart’s content. But I’m glad if you’ve got a little short term enthusiasm.

Kevin you have a Wylde too?

That is if I give it back to him! :smiling_imp: It used to be a computer…
You will have to come by and check it out.
It is marked:

Started out as firewood

M

In a round about way they all start out as potential firewood.

Well if anyone can get it working its Jon. I have one of his Wylde and he has mine right now.

I’ll have to go check it out while its still in Jon’s ICU and see how close it is to mine.

Of all the ones if have seen up close so far they tend to be sterling players.

Poorman’s Rudalls
