Reasonably accessible areas include Orange County, for the time being, and the San Gabriel Valley later in the summer.

iM Not in SoCal anymore, but I hope you find a burninating good session.
The only ones I know are the ones in Santa Monica (Finn McCool’s?) and San Diego (The Field), which I guess are out of your main areas. If you get a chance to go to these, you are guaranteed to hear some great music. 
I seem to remember hearing you are a college student, right? Make sure you get there early, then, so you avoid getting carded. (Am I allowed to say that???)

I’ve been to the Oulde Sod (sp?) outside of San Diego. This is the one that Michael Eskin is in/leads. They’re reel heavy and have a great rhythm. I know it’s not exactly in your radius, but I’d go down at least once just to get a feel for it. Great music!

The Ould Sod and the Blarney Stone are just bars, so you have to be 21 to get in, but the others are restaurant/bars so minors are welcome.

No way! I’m still in denial about really being here permanently in Florida, and intend to be in denial for the indefinite future. I cant explain why, except, well, maybe I’m a California Snobe.
By the way, the session at the Field is one heck of a rockin session…and my pleasure at participating during my last business trip to San Diego was matched only at my angst and envy when I returned to the relative IrTrad wasteland of Sarasota/Bradenton. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful experience, the people were very open and kind (I was still quite the fiddle newbie when I was there) and I highly recommend it if any of you are ever in San Diego on a Sunday. Oh, and stay to the end, cuz if you do there’s food.
