OK, I’m in San Diego on a way-boring business trip this weekend, and have Sunday night free…are there any sessions going on this sunday night in the Gaslamp district?
“The Field”, an Irish pub on 5th Ave in the Gaslamp district.
On more than one business trip to San Diego I’ve enjoyed the Irish music there on a Sunday evening. Session, I presume, since it didn’t seem like a band. One time they had Irish dancers on a dis-assemble-able stage. Friendly folks, nice atmosphere, good food. (I’m partial to the bloxty.) It’s been 6 or 7 months since I was there on a Sunday eve. Their website says they’re still having the session – “www.thefield.com/events.html”
I don’t begin to be good enough on the whistle to even ask to participate in any session, so I can’t give you an estimate on how willing they are to accept newcomers. Listening, though, sure seemed to sooth my jet lag. I remember seeing fiddles, a flute a whistle & maybe an accordion. (Like I said, jet lag.)
May your trip be successful, even if it is boring.
Thanks very much… I’ll callthe pub and ask if its a closed session. If its open, that would be perfect, but even if its not, then I know where I wanna be.
