Looking for Low F

i’ve discovered i really do like whistle/flutes in f. easy to play, haunting sound. i currently have a wonderful hoover low f and bamboo flute in f. anyone tried a reyburn low f? sound wonderful on his page and i’ve been very pleased with other reyburns? any recommendations??

I have a Grinter low F I am considering selling since I got another one that I dare not talk about for fear of … :astonished:

I have a Cheiftian Low F which is really nice. I would also reccomend an Overton by Goldie as I have heard those are some of his best I think Doc Jones has one for sale on his site. I asked about low Fs a while ago and I was reccomended the three already mentioned by myself and IDAwHOa and a Burke.

I prefer my Alba low F. A lovely whistle at a great price.

I’ve tried one of the older Reyburns, with the wooden head. It was great. It had a very big sound – I don’t mean loud (although it had good volume), but rich and vibrant. The low notes, especially, were very full and resonant. It was a joy to play.

Tony Dixon is now making an aluminum alloy low F, similar to his low D. It’s not on the web site yet, so you’ll have to contact him by email first.
I’m waiting on it now. Should be here soon.
I love Tony’s whistles! And he’s a great person to work with.

Colin Goldie AltoF - GREAT whistle.
He can make for you whistle with various parameters, and will play for you by phone!
In a result you receive then in the given key (F) already anything it will be not necessary for you.
Personally I have Overton F from Colin, and I do not think any more of this key.

Phil Hardy’s Kerry Pro low F is a great choice also!

good thoughts all – thank you . . .

  • that explains that little mishap I heard about :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll vote for the Reyburn. I’ve played one and they are very rich and have a nice round tone which I’m sure is due to the use of wood. Excellent volume also. Can’t go wrong with a Reyburn!!!
