Low F Whistle Advice

I’ve been playing the high D whistle for awhile now and am interested in a low F. I would appreciate any recommendations for a low F. Thanks.

I just basically asked the same question. Here’s the thread:

I definitely have my eye on a tunable Goldie F. My friend has a Goldie G that I am in love with. I tried his Kerry Pro F and another F; didn’t like either but I’m not a dedicated whistler, more of a fluter.

Thanks Akiba. I actually did a search and was told that my question regarding recommendations was too general. I appreciate the thread.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to buy an Alba whistle in the U.S. or do I need to order it from Scotland?

Just order directly from Alba. Stacey is great to deal with. Plus she can engrave it with anything you like, if you choose…

I just played an Overton non-tunable Low F that a friend has for sale. This is all so subjective, but I thought it had a lovely sound and was much easier to play than I thought it would be.

I think I must have it.

Of course, this is the only Low F I’ve ever played so I don’t really have anything to compare it to. Or is that “with?” Whatever.

One of the best Fs I ever played was a Goldie. I like the Burke F as well. My current F is a Reyburn F but I never play it as I absolutely love F flutes so use one of those any time I have a chance to play in that key.

Burke also makes a Hi-F that’s the cat’s pajamas…love that little rascal.

I am very fond of my Low F Susato, which I bought in 1999. It’s good all the way up to the top B (fingering position, not note), but that note needs a bit of work. Anyway, comparatively few tunes go that high. Mine is so good, I used it for recording as well as gigging rather than a Low F Copeland I owned for some years. In general, I’m not a Susato apologist, btw!

Personally, I’ve never played an Alba that didn’t have at least one note I didn’t like. Colin Goldie’s are so expensive, they’re only for a serious player (by which I mean someone who either plays pro, semi-pro or sessions A LOT). With a Susato, you won’t break the bank. I’ve never played one of Mike Burke’s low whistles, but I have 6 of his ‘high’ whistles - they are terriffic.

I have a Susato Low F I could sell. I prefer my alba.

PM if interested.
