I am trying to find a site that will enable me to upload a 430mb avi file and send the link to a friend so that they can download it.
I have seen such sites around the place but just cannot seem to find one today.
Any suggestions?

Box.net allows up to 1 GB with a free account. Just sign up.
Never heard of the large file hosting like this

search this site for a Dale post from a week or so back using the keyword ’ posterous '; he found such a site and made a post. You just send it an email with whatever attacked, and it sends you a reply with the now public URL of your former attachment.
Or, you could go to posterous.com and looks for instruction. Or just google posterous, actually.
That did the trick.
I had to sign up for a monthly payment to accommodate the size of the file but I can cancel in fourteen days if not entirely satisfied.
I’ll probably keep it on as it is only a few quid a month anyhow.
