You know, for as much crap as he gets, Dale is a relatively relaxed moderator.
Back in the “good old days”, as my comrades in Geekdom like to call it, the
internet was a nerdocracy. The engineers and computer programmers and
scientists had control of it. If you go to any BBS or USENET group from
those days (that is still around), you will see what moderation was really about.
It was swift and meriless. There was NO meta-discussion (which means
discussion about how to discuss stuff, or about how the BBS was run, were
strictly not allowed: therefore threads like this would be deleted without
delay.)
Personally, I like the moderation here. It’s not so harsh as to disallow all
conversation, but not so lax as to allow jerks to run amok, both of which
are situations I’ve seen elsewhere.
(No user was singled out as a jerk for this post. All Jerk-related comments
are non-specific and illustrative. Any resemblence to actual jerks, living or dead,
is coincidental. All rights reserved. All wrongs avenged.)
This is how i lock threads!!
