List of All Ireland Champions

List of All Ireland Champions
Guys, I have been working of this page and have put together a relatively comprehensive list of All-Ireland but I am missing out a lot of the older champions - can you help??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_All-Ireland_Champions#Whistling_.28Feada.C3.ADl.29

cheers

That’s a pretty impressive list already, nice work!

I wonder if CCE could help you with the older champions?

Did you want to specify age groups?

I won the 15-18 uilleann pipes in 1988. Ivan Goff won it in 1987 and John O’Brien won it in 1989. I remember Mick O’Brien being cheerful that his 3 prize students won the Fleadh 3 in a row!

I got 1st in the 18+ (senior) slow airs in 1991. Gloat, gloat. The only thing I won since was 10 euro on a lottery scratch card in Dublin a few weeks ago! Horay! It paid for my bus fare to the city and 2 pints in the Cobblestone!

Tommy

I see that someone won both the Ladies and Mens singing titles.

I would like to hear the story on that one!

Hmmmmmm, my mind is racing…

It seems that I posted this note to the wrong address so here goes again.

A few years ago I was sitting in Willie Clancy’s living room and noticed in the newspaper that the All Ireland was on. I said " Hey! Willie lets go to the competition". “No thanks you” says Willie. “Why not?” I said. Willie thought for a while and said “I’m afraid that I might loose”

All the best,
Pat Sky

You still have to answer my question… :stuck_out_tongue:

If you won it in 1991 you can go and add your name, cheers

damn, where have I made a mistake

Actually Pat, I think that a lot of musicians hold the same opinion, plus they like to let the “up and comers” have their time

Still looking for a lot of Slow air flute champions if anyone knows anyone that won any year

Thanks for going over and adding those Tommy - do you know any other Uillean pipe winners fron around your time - both the slow airs and standard competition?

I’m 99% sure Tiaran O Duinchin won the over 18 pipes the year I won the slow airs.
I’ll post it too.

Tommy

I’m pretty sure Brendan Ring won the senior comp. in either 1990 or 1991.

I made another list - this time of locations of All Ireland since 1951 - missing a few years - maybe you know where it was in those years - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_venues_for_All_Ireland_Fleadh_Cheoil_Na_hÉireann

lurker, was that slow airs or standard comp? what county did he represent?

Was speaking with Pat McNulty last night, nice guy and his wife Anne who also plays the pipes.Correction time indeedy…
Pat won the All Ireland in 1958 and Oireachtas in 1959,61,62,63 Oireachtas in those days was only open to the pipes and fiddles and was considered as good as the All Ireland.

I notice someone just added in that Dan Cleary, County Offaly won it in 55 and 57. Firstly thanks to whoever did that and secondly can anyone confirm if that is correct

I think Finbar Fury should be in there some where Prince of Pipers.
