Leaving Shannon

I’m in the Shannon airport, shortly to be boarding my flight back to Toronto. All told, 10 days in Ireland and 1120 kms driven on the narrow country roads (feels more like ten thousand miles) and excellent M and N motorways. I’ve had a blast.

I’ve been very fortunate to have been given such generous time from Gay McKeon, Mick O’Brien, Kevin Rowsome, Brian McNamara, Emmett Gill, Mickey Dunne, Peter Laban, Michael Falsey, and Brid O’Donoghue and her marvellous daughters Eibhlís and Deirdre. I’ve been let into their homes and I’ve been given the opportunity to talk with them about piping and take their photograph for an upcoming project. I owe Peter Laban a debt of gratitude for linking me in to some great talent and giving me much to think about. Send good thoughts to Maire Ni Ghrada’s mum who is undergoing a bypass operation.

This is the first leg of my project within Ireland and I know I’ll be back, but it hasn’t been inexpensive and I’ll be saving my pennies for another go 'round. So thousands of thank yous to those very special people.

Best to all.

What an extraordinary trip you must have had! I’m lime green with envy.

Sure, rub it in. We don’t mind at all.

So… ummm… what 'ya get for me?

Almost on the flight now, but here you go Joe…

Paul,
Hope that you got the breakfast there in Shannon Airport. They do a pretty decent job of it. Last call for blood pudding and rashers!

Neil

Oh man, I’ll be off rashers and sausages for a while! (But I quite liked the soda bread and the best butter on the planet!) Anyway, back home now safe and sound, what a trip. Lot’s of thinking to do now, I may not sleep for a couple of days, it was certainly difficult to do so while I was there!

sigh

OOooooooh, I’ve always wanted one of those!!!
