My Ireland Trip

Just returned from my first Ireland trip. Thanks Peter for turning us onto the Brandon session in Ennis it was right up our ally so to speak. We also had great sessions in Doolin and Belfast. The pipes only came out once in session and went right back in. I stuck to whistle and Bodhran and managed well. Overall a great trip. The people of Ireland were warm and welcoming. I met up with Pipemaker Martin Preshaw in beautiful country Katesbridge and stayed at the Preshaw home our final night. Martin made me a dreamy half set in C . He gave me a reed making demonstration and gave me every tool I need to make my own reeds. I even snagged some secret mysto cane the origin of which wild horses will not drag from me. Irena cooked a fine Salmon dinner. Then off to a fine session at Hewitt’s Belfast. I didn’t play but my wife was coaxed up and they lent her a fiddle… the gents almost ran off with her. She was warmly recd by all.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Martin is truly a master craftsman. I was fascinated and honored to be in his workshop. I have received many earnest Kudos on the sound of his pipes even thought I have only a year and some under my belt. This comes from other more experienced piper’s at festivals and such. The C set works well in the kitchen….my family is grateful as well. Martin also makes a fine full Irish Breakfast!
Now thats Irish Hospitality for ya!
