Late notice, but those in the finger lakes region of NY might want to know that Karen Casey and Lunasa are playing Sunday March 7th at Cornell. There aren’t many tickets left, but worth looking into if you are close by.
…and so far away! That would have been a great birthday present for me!
By the way, the last two Solas albums have had Deirdre Scanlon as lead singer, not Karan Casey. However, Karan has some nice solo albums. I have “Songlines” myself.
hi Redwolf,
Went to see Karan Casey last weekend in Pasadena CA., there was about 100 people there, it was in a small church auditorium. you can’t get anymore west then that!
She was awsome!
Jon
She hasn’t been with Solas in years. (Like, the first time I saw them, in 2000, she was no longer with Solas. I don’t even think it was particularly fresh news then.)
But she’s not joined Lunasa, they just have a bit of a joint tour going on at the moment. From the Ann Arbor Ark website: “This performance is an equal bill, with each group performing one full set of songs, although we may be treated to some collaborations.”
For those who aren’t aware of the relationship between Lunasa and Karan Casey (other than musical), Karan Casey is married to Niall Vallely, concertina player and brother of Cillian Vallely of Lunasa. The bands frequently perform together.
Yes,
Niall Vallely was with the Karan Casey band last Saturday. Besides the concertina, he also played low whistle. He had a nice solo which was the only ITRAD in the concert! The audience really perked up!

Ps I got his Cd, where he plays with his bother called Callan Bridge. Great CD!
Yes, the the fact that she’s moved away from trad pretty much killed any interest I had in hearing her. (Which wasn’t terribly high in the first place – I’m not a big fan of her voice.)

Indeed. One of my favorite CDs from the last couple of years. There’s at least a couple of tracks I could listen to over and over and over again. Great stuff.
