Has anybody heard any news about these guys? Have they released a CD yet? Or can anybody direct me too some sound clips?
Cheers,
Aaron

I am going to see them tonight. Check out the Féile an Earraigh section in Féile an Phobail West Belfast site it gives a short history on them.
Cheers, Gerry
Enjoy the show! £3 at the door is hard to beat.
i have also been waiting for this release, been looking for awhile.
As usual with these things it they did’nt come on stage till about half eleven, but I had to leave the gig early, had to get up for work, just as it was getting going. On my way home I ran into a fella I know who made me go into Kelly’s Cellers for one for the road.My head is very sore this morning as when we got into Kelly’s I heard a the sound of pipes coming from the back.Went to investigate and found Nollaig MacCarthaigh,Conor and Gay McKeon, Tom Clarke all playing.Needless to say I stayed for more than one.Great Piping.
Sometimes a man’s just gotta do what a man’s gotta do. I’ll bet the craic was mighty. ![]()
Heard them in Belfast @ Feile an Earraigh - as usual brilliant! Jarlath on tour with Luke Daniels Circle of Stone - heard interview on Radio 3 - very interesting stuff. Rumour of CD early summer? Hear Jarlath’s doing Glasgow’s Piping Live in August.
I have just seen those clips of Jarlath Henderson at Phil Hardy’s site. I really like him on those clips but then I never hear of him. I’ll try checking out that website. If the show starts at 11:30 a CD would be the only answer for me! ![]()
I didn’t know there was a clip on Phil’s site. Thanks for mentioning that, Cynth. It’s under “Misc.” for those that haven’t seen it. There’s an interview too. He certainly makes a good poster-boy for the Armagh Pipers’ Club. It was also good to hear that he appreciates Ennis, Clancy, and Rowsome as well as the contemporary players.
does anyone know where he released his new cd, can"t find any trace but know he sell"s them at the door
Here’s a link to the Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson Band’s agent’s website, UC Music Live, where there is a sound sample of the boys.
As for the progress of the CD, the scoop I got is that Ross is busy with Salsa Celtica and that they are waiting for Donald Shaw of Capercaillie to do the producing (I don’t remember if he is producing for the Ross/Jarlath Band or Salsa Celtica).
Cheers,
Aaron
Well, if Donald Shaw winds up producing it, you can bet there’ll be some pretty cheesy keyboard bits in there…
In spite of that, it seems like Ross and Jarlath’s talent would make any recording they did worth listening to. Overly flashy at times, yes, but I’d give my right arm to be able to play like either of them…
Yeah, I wonder that too. If that’s the case I hope he’s producing Salsa Celtica. He’s bloody good on the accordion though. I miss the old Capercaillie sound of accordion, fiddle and whistle at the front and the keyboard et al. in the back. Now the keyboard and extraneous instruments are more prominent along with more percussion. You can’t make out the tunes or the songs and smothering Karen Matheson’s voice is a severe crime.
I was talkin with Jarlath last week and heard some of the stuff off the new album- it was really great!! So new and thoughtful. The guys are seriously talented- i heard them at celtic connections in January when they got a scratch band together in honour of Gordon Duncan, who taught the lads loads i’m told. It had brian finnegan on whistle and the pianist from blazin fiddles and Adam sutherland from the Peatbog Faeries. Got it together in ten minutes and it was one of the highlights of the night. Two sets of pipes playin thunderstruck!!
It must be in their blood or somethin. Jarlath said it was recorded in a different studio, so i don’t know if Donald Shay produced it. The stuff I heard sounded totally original. I think it’s comin out october time- hes studying medicine in Aberdeen!!
Brian
Does anyone know when the album will be released.

Sometimes scratch bands really can be the best. Kinda reminds me of Fred Morrison’s “Ceòlas” debut concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in 1998 as part of the “Big Big World” world music festival. Fred had put posters for the show up all over Glasgow, including the names of the band members, but had neglected to tell the other people in the band about the gig–or in a few cases, that they were in the band! I think some of them found out about it from phone calls from friends who had seen the posters in Glasgow…(The band, incidentally, consisted of Fred on Border pipes & low whistle, Kenny Fraser and Ronan Martin on fiddles, Ross Martin on guitar, Will Lamb on bouzouki, and Alasdair Codona on vocals, guitar, and step dancing). Anyway, fortunately, everyone advertised was available despite having no more than three days notice and no rehearsal time. The resulting show has to be probably one of the best concerts of any genre that I’ve ever seen. Everything was note-perfect, so to speak, yet sounded very raw and spontaneous. If it had been more rehearsed, I doubt it would have had the same energy to it. The only reason the band were able to pull it off is because they were all first rate players and very relaxed, easygoing people.
Jarlath is studying medicine in Aberdeen? Man, that’s kinda depressing…Uh, apologies to any Aberdonians out there reading this…
As I remember, Jarlath has quite an affinity for Scotland (Henderson, you understand) and has many good friends there as well. It doesn’t surprise me at all, hopefully he’s brought his VW minibus over! ![]()
Hi SP
That was a great concert. Fred always gives a good show.

Fred Morrison and Jarlath Henderson will be playing here.
They did a lovely duet at the festival club last year - hopefully there will be a reprise this year.
