why did that remind me of Yngwie Malmsteen…

It is fun to watch Jarleth make his Williams set soar.

Should remind you of Johnny Doran…

Thanks from me too, I just checked it out, nice stuff. Interesting harp/pipes duet.

Jarleth is good, and he doesn’t seem to be a speed freak, but he’s not in the same league as Johnny Doran. He’s young, so let’s give him time to grow and just hope he doesn’t burn out before he gets old. Nice sounding pipes by the way.

I’m sad…youtube won’t work for me!! it hasn’t worked for quite a while and I really love watching piping videos. Help?

What problems are you experiencing?

To be clear, I just meant Jarleth’s rendition of those specific tunes seems highly influenced by Johnny Doran’s recording. The playing Jarleth did on the Radio Scotland “Travelling Folk” show posted here wasn’t so Doranesque, so I gather he’s doing a bit of a tribute here.

This is GREAT !!!
but whats the second tune ?

Jason, thanks for the PM. Hopefully what I describe is helpful and cures the problem. I think a few others have experienced problems viewing embedded videos too.

This recent group of piping videos is delightful (with the exception of the guy playing with his fingertips) so I make the following suggestions:

You need to have a plug-in to see the video. Usually there is a message if you are unable to see the video.

I had some problems with websites using ‘Flash’
This is what YouTube uses to generate the videos within your browser.

I have Explorer, Netscape, Opera and Firefox and they all had the same problem. Sometimes, I would get an error message that required me to close the browser. In some cases, it would freeze, requiring me to close it via the program manager. Opera often shutoff without warning!

For me, this all started after my niece used my computer. My guess is she went to a website that uses a different plug-in and it was conflicting with the Flash plug-in.

Adobe bought out Macromedia and there are a few different versions available now. I spoke to a technician who told me to remove all older versions and install the latest Adobe Flash.

If your plug-in came from a stand alone installation, you could remove it from Control panel: add remove/programs
If it was installed directly into your browser (usually at a website that says: get the plug-in) you must go into the browser to remove it.

Do a search in the help of your browser to find this… or you could do a Yahoo search: remove flash plug-in, remove macromedia plug-in.
Typically the plug-in’s are in the subdirectory for their respective browser.

For example:
c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins\

I deleted everything in the subdirectory and started over.

It worked for Explorer and sometimes for Netscape so I suspect there are other plug-in’s elsewhere in Windows I cannot find.

I was also having similar problems with Yahoo. I upgraded versions and the newest versions plays commercials in a small window of the bottom of the buddy list and the window if you are using a webcam. Yahoo would often crash when the advertisement changed… they are using a version of flash too!

I’m using a different computer with a new installation of Windows now and everything is good. I only installed the shockwave on one browser and cancel requests to install any other plug-ins. I will probably install Quicktime so it plays media within the browser and not open Windows Media player.

Let me know it any of these tips work for you!

you’re great Tony!!! thanks alot! Fantastic video…even my non-pipe-loving girlfriend liked it!

Well, the first tune is Colonel Fraser (but you probably knew that) and the second tune is My Love is in America.

Really enjoyed Jarlath’s playing on the Radio Scotland program…Did he ever wind up recording an album with Ross Ainslie on Border pipes? I hope that sees the light of day at some point…

Ross and Jarlath have recorded an album. I asked Ross a couple of weeks ago about it. He said he’s not sure when it’ll be out but they were off to do the photo shoot soon. It was going to be done in a jail with them wearing jail clothes. The album’s called partners in crime.

David

I like the concept.

alright,thanks border bro,good news!

I met and talked to Ross Ainslie’s flat-mate, Ali Hutton of ‘Back of the Moon,’ and my understanding was that Donald Shaw was producing Ross and Jarlath’s album… I think I reported this in another thread. The hold-up was that Donald was finishing producing a Salsa Celtica album before putting final touches on Ross/Jarlath… or maybe the hold up was that he couldn’t quite cram in enough synthesizer.

that is the funniest feckin thing I’ve read on this list!
