The title is the question.
Many thanks.
Check out SDP:
It is able to grab and save streaming .WMV files. Not the simplest tool to use, but it will do the job.
Cheers,
Michael
Fantactic Eskin!
The Three Mary are on the HD waiting for news videos from TG4 !
Many thanks.
Any similar apps for the Mac? The link posted in Eskins reply had a broken page ot it.
Great! I’ve recorded Liam O’Flynn’s receiving the award with SDP but now it won’t play back. ![]()

David how did ye get the thing to work?
Cheers
Uilliam
Only the Three Mary can be seen ! It’s miraculous !
The other videos can’t be played . I don’t know why and I don’t know any more how I’ve made for The Three Mary !
Perhaps Michael can give us some indications to use this application
thanks,
JL
Uilliam, I’m not sure how I got it to go. I haven’t had enough time to play with all possibilities yet. There are two things I can guess that might have made it work: Firstly, I set the program running in my browser. Then I right clicked to get the URL link of the actual program, not the page the program is located on. Secondly, I started SDP while the show was running on my browser and fed it the URL in the SDP Open box.
So the trick was either getting the correct source URL or running SDP while the browser was running the program. So now I have a very big file that gets a codec error. The Microsoft error page is not specific as to whether Windows Media Player 11 doesn’t recognize the codec used to record the program, or the codec used to compress the program.
I will try the Three Marys clip as BZH29 (JL) mentioned. If file size has anything to do with the playback problem, then the difficulty may be with the compression codec, and I will be able to take this back to the SDP folks for assistance.

Hello,
Any similar apps for the Mac?
Try Mac ASF Recorder
On this link some other solution http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/all-streaming-video-recording-software.htm
I’ve recorded the file from 10 April on TG4 and it works ! I dont understand why some file works and others not ?
try this player http://www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml
What’s the URL of the show? I can’t seem to figure that out.
Left Menu
Ceol Cartlann
Archived shows are listed there… just watch the ones you recognise a name from, or if you have time, watch them all.
Pat.
dug around. I think this is the actual url for the archive. I pasted into media player 9 for the mac and it works. Now I need to figure out how to save the stream
Finally found a MAC app that will record a stream that works!! I’ll snag the video.
Thanks David not much wiser but i put that down to ma age ![]()

Ah, you want to figure out the URL of the stream, different tool for that:
URL Snooper:
http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper/index.html
it watches your incoming network stream and displays “interesting” URLs referencing media streams. You can then use those URLs with SDP to capture the streams in realtime to your hard drive.
URL Snooper + SDP usually gets the job done, but not always, consider it another tool in the toolbox.
Michael
Okay, Uilliam, I have this figured out.
1). Start the tv show you want in your browser.
2). Right-click on the tv screen while the show is playing and a window will come up with different properties about the show.
3). Highlight and copy the URL.
4). Stop the tv show in your browser.
5). Start up SDP. In the Open box, paste in the URL you copied.
6). Watch the messages as SDP sets up the download. Press Go to start recording.

Used firefox and its history tool to see what the embed file is playiing.. But don’t need that know. I’m cheating and using a screen capture program since none of the mac apss that were suggested worked with that particular stream
Any solutions to the codec error problem?
I did exactly like this and for the first time it seemed to be working at the beginning and I thought the file was actually being downloaded (when I tried before I just got an error message), but at the end when I went to check the downloaded file, there was only this file from TG4 saying “access denied, make sure you are accessing this file from www.tg4.ie” ![]()
That much I can help with. To clarify what DJM wrote, in order to get the URL you need, you have to start watching the program in your browser. When it is playing, right click the screen. Then, select “Properties”. At the bottom of the properties page you will see “Location” with a URL beside it. Copy this, and but it in the Open box of SDP. You shouldn’t get that message this time, and you should be able to record by pressing “Go” on the SDP.
However, there is still the issue about the Codec. When it’s finished downloading, and you try to play it, you will find that Windows Media Player doesn’t support it.
I’ve tried Divix as well. No luck.
Anyone else figure it out?
