Just went to the website to drool over whistles I can’t afford and the front page has loads of weird writing (arabic?) on it and pics of guys in balaclavas holding large weapons.
For a limited time only, every whistle order from The Irish Flute Store will receive a free AK-47 and a complimentary Palestinean flag!
Yes, our Middle-Eastern friends hacked in a deleted everything in my database (inventory, categories, etc…) The password for my admin page was pretty obvious…probably my own dumb fault…live and learn.
All my credit cards are processed directly by Paypal and aren’t (so far as I know) stored anywhere on the website so that shouldn’t be a concern. I’ll be double checking on this tomorrow with my “Web Nerd”.
I thought it was interesting that they chose to publish their propaganda in arabic. Seems like if you’re going to go to the trouble of comandeering a website to diseminate propoganda you ought to do it in the language the website is writtten in.
The good news is that Godaddy can (for a measley $150) cure all my woes with some sort of magic restoration procedure.
Maybe it was just some choice poetry from Omar Khayyam? You never know. Unless you speak Arabic. On the other hand, he never wrote about the glory of AK-47s…
Especially so for me because I placed an order on Saturday using my debit card via Paypal. So far my bank account hasn’t been depleted. I’m anxious to hear what Doc’s ‘web nerd’ has to say.
But the main thing is, will I be getting the Shaw Bb? I’ve already begun imagining playing it back and forth with my Clarke C.
I couldn’t risk it so I stopped by my bank and they made these recommendations:
Open a new account and immediately transfer the money from the old account into the new
Leave just enough money in the old account to cover all pending transactions
Leave the old account open to see if it has been compromised. If so then close it. If not then use it for transactions only, transferring money into it as needed. Thus the new primary account won’t be exposed to any risk.
So now I have a shiny new ATM card. And a shiny new account number too. I’ve had the old account for just shy of twenty years and finally had the number memorized. Oh well, I’m approaching the age when I would have forgotten it anyway.
And just for the record, what had me so panicked was that just for a few days, while awaiting another purchase, I had damn near my entire life savings in my account. That would have been a very expensive whistle.
I just went to yer site to pretend buying something to see what happened at checkout with paypal. I quit when I got to the email/password part. You should check with yer net dude/dudette to see if the emails are encrypted. If not they may have been harvested in the attack.
BTW: I’m assuming that Go Daddy told you when the backup was done, that they restored from, and that any changes made to the site after that are lost.
