Introduction...long overdue!

Hi folks!

I decided, with some encouragement, that today is the day
for me to pry myself out of my cozy little lurking closet and
officially introduce my self. I’m Amy K. and as you can tell by
the date under my name, I’ve been hanging around for a while.
I’ve been play the tinwhistle for about as long but, please understand
that it doesn’t mean I’m any good! In reality, I’ve been in a really
bad slump but with a lot of encouragement and even more practice,
I’m slowly coming out of it. I’m falling in love with my whistles and
Irish music again!

I guess you could say that I’m a student by profession. The
rest of my time is taken up helping to care for my parents,
neither of which drives anymore! This doesn’t mean that
they don’t get around well though. People talk about their
kids being a hand full, well I can tell you that parents can
be just as bad! I wouldn’t trade them for anything!

Over the years I’ve learned so much from you lovely people
and while I’m introducing myself, I what to also say thank
you for the many laughs you’ve given me! You all are one
in a million!

I’ll say good by for now!

Amy

Stay with us, please. Nice to hear from you, Jim

Absolutely! Don’t go back into lurk mode now! Welcome to the fipple forum!

Redwolf

Hello Amy,

Welcome to the board! There is an aweful lot of experienced people on the board here and they are full of information! You are in the best company in terms of a community full of wonderful whistlers!

Enjoy the stay and pls keep us all posted on the various things that we all can assist you with! There is also a great exchange of encouragement here on the board.

It’s great being a new person on the whistle! Keep up the good work.

It sounds as if you are starting to rekindle your passion for playing! If you need anything at all pls do not hesitate to ask us all. Good luck and we all look forward to many post’s from you in the future. All the best Amy!

Yes, pull up a chair and a whistle it’s a good place here really.. I wish I could have lurked for so long, you must be a very patient person.

Welcome!

Hi folks,

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Your
kindness has convinced me that the closet
isn’t the place for to be anymore! I think
I’ll be staying for a prolonged visit…if that’s ok?

Thanks for the encouragement too,Talbert!

Monster, I am a patient person, but I think in this
case you can chalk it up to shyness!

Amy

Welcome aboard. You said we were one in a million and we gave you a lot of laughs. You didn’t mention strange, weird or crazy. I guess you haven’t been paying attention. Many of us can’t play worth beans but the difference is we keep trying. If you keep playing regularly you will get better. So the answer is simple.

Keep whistling

Ron

You are more than welcome Amy!!!

Oh, I think we can stand you, Amy. How long you can stand US is the real problem. Overall, we’re a pretty decent bunch, though some of us do go just a little bit bonkers when we start playing in the political minefields.

Glad you decided to come out of your corner and join the party.

Hey, there. Confessions of a fellow lurker – I’ve been lurking the board for probably 3 years now – ever since I was handed my first Walton’s D and searched the web to find out more. I’ve learned an awful lot through you all, contracted a good case of WhOA (kept in check by funding two college kids), and have enjoyed the posts throughout these three years. Reason for not registering before now? Probably combination of shyness and the overwhelming bigness of this board. I have to agree with Amy – you are a very special group of people.

Debbie

Aha! Another one! Soon a tidal wave of lurkers will be upon us, coming out of lurkdom to lurk no more. Welcome to Debbie!

Welcome! Don’t worry about all the OT fuss. We all metaphorically drink together when its all said and done…well, most of us.

Enjoy the whistles and start ordering today!!!

Oh my goodness! This is just too coool! I now get to
welcome someone and I’ve only been “official”
for, what, maybe three hours. Welcome to the light, Debbie!
Thanks for joining us!

Chuck-Thanks for the warning! I’ll stay out of the
political threads…I don’t really want to get blown up!

Amy

Welcome aboard. Sigh. I think I lurked for maybe, four minutes? Actually I read through the post every night for a couple three weeks befor joining and posting.

Hi Amy – after joining in 2001, how did you ever manage to stay quiet so long? I have been a ‘semi-lurker’ for about a year - but only joined this past week. Blame Jessie’s raffle for Jerry Freeman. Is it the tradition to ‘introduce’ yourself? I may go back to lurk mode if so … whistle in hand, of course. You are right - the people here are great. I’ve learned quite a bit of interesting stuff lately – some of it even relates to the whistle.

 Welcome! I’m new here myself, and everyone is very patient and encouraging with my questions. People have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome here. I’m sure you will find it the same for you. I hope to see posts from you in the future!
Lynda

 Thanks for the welcome everyone. Yes – it will be much more fun being out of the closet and in “the light”. Jessie’s raffle for Jerry is part of the blame for me to come out also.

Debbie

Hi folks!

It’s great to hear from all of you!

My lengthy life as a lurker was due mainly to
the fact that my shy streak is VERY wide and
runs Very deep! As far as “officially” introducing
ones self? I guess you really wouldn’t have to.
But many do. For me personally, I sort of felt like
I was a stranger intruding in a privet conversation.
Please don’t go back into the lurking mode.
Introducing your self isn’t as difficult as I
thought it would be. But then I had some very sweet
“holding” my hand while I did it. So if you feel like it,
just tell us a little something about yourself. I’ll be
here, as I’m sure will several others, to hold your hand.
We’d love to hear from you!

Oh, It was Jessie’s raffle for Jerry that set me on
this path too!

Thanks again for the warm welcome everyone!

Amy

Well Amy you’ve dragged another serial lurker out of his closet (or should I say cupboard as I am Scottish, not British you understand). I have been an on and off C&F observer and occasional participant since 1999!! Aye that’s right when the old style board was on the go no less.

So when I gave in to my periodical case of WHOA where did I turn? You guys of course. This time it had to be a wooden whistle and after a couple of hours with the fabulous archives I arrived at the conclusion it had to be a Busman. And so it comes to pass - my Bocote prizewinner is winging its way across a dark and roiling Atlantic as we speak (allowing for artistic licence). Can’t wait.

I hope to contribute a bit more regularly and give a wee voice to my wee corner of the world.

Gerry
