Sorry freudian slip I mean typing error I meant to say Liam o Flynn,s biggest fan .Just finished watching a video of Planxty,s reunion gig in vicar street they must be the finest trad group of all time .Needless to say Liam was in great form ,improving with age for sure .As tight as ever, you can hear clearly every note he gets from what must be the most famous set of pipes of all (see he.s changed the chanter head for some reason )
He play,s so effortlessly sitting there as calm as you like playing some of the most amazing piping you,re ever likely to hear
For me he,s got it all ,long may he reign
Damn! This is the third mention I’ve seen of the Planxty Regrouped program. I doubt it will ever air here. I’ve queried RTÉ about releasing a video of this, but probably won’t even get an answer.
I don’t suppose I could … um … well … no, no … I suppose not, but … well, if anyone would care to share a taped copy of this show it would be much appreciated. Please PM me.
liam played at a ceremomy on saturday in dublin to mark expansion of the EU - just the one tune, The Bridge
also at the weekend i spotted 3 pipers on the one bill on BBC1 concert in Belfast - i think one of them was Cillian Vallely (with Clannad), another was with Kila, and there was one other who played as part of an orchestra at the end in what i think may have been a piece commissioned for the occasion
