ok, so i’ve heard that Mack Hoover makes a head/fipple called the Whitecap and that some of you really like it. i want one. just a couple of questions:
Mine costed $20, for the mouthpiece only but you can get Mack’s own tube, too, for more money. I’m pretty positive they come in other keys, but am not certain. Mack is awesome. I lost his site, though.
I had the same questions before getting mine. The Whitecap is a head only. It’s CPVC plastic lined with a thin brass tube. making a standard cheap whistle into a tunable whistle. You’ll also need a standard metal tube such as that from a Generation, Feadog or Acorn. I’m sure Mack can tell you what other tubes they fit. Once you have both, you remove the cheap whistle’s plastic head (this can be tough - see the whistle tweaking instructions on the C&F main website) and replace it with the Whitecap.
I love mine. I use it on a Gen tube, which it fits like a dream. My Oak tube was a tiny bit thicker and it has to be really forced. It won’t fit my Hoover narrow bore tube.
It has a slight clogging problem that is easliy rectified with the soap solution.
I don’t think his lead times are terribly long these days.

One whitecap I had (#894) didn’t have the brass inside, while the other (#935) did. The one with the brass does fit a tiny bit tighter than the other one. They also fit Gen Eb tubes.
