Has everyone had good luck with these?I have a Walton mellow D that shifts octaves too easy at the lower notes.Thought about trying the Whitecap.
I had great luck with my whitecap. I had an old Gen Bb that was really just junk - sent it to Mack for a whitecap and now I have a seriously great whistle.
Highly recommended.
All the best,
Tom
Every whitecap owner I’ve talked to loved them. I also enjoy mine
tremendously. Mine is quiet and sweet. The only difficulty is that it
clogs fairly easily, but I got used to blowing the moisture out after
each tune. I might buy a louder version, possibly in black.
Same here. I have a whitecap that I alternately use on an Oak and a 2-piece Clare body. It’s a nice, sweet-sounding whistle – very accurate and responsive. Clogs a bit, but it hasn’t been a problem. Highly recommended.
I have a whitecap on an Oak tube. It is the best thing that ever happened to my Oak.
Ron
I also have a Whitecap on an Oak and just love it. It took me a few days to get used to the air it likes, but no biggie. I don’t seem to have many problems with clogging.
Great sounding whistle that plays easily in both registers.
I’ve also put it on my Feadog and Clare one-piece nickel, and it improved them both.

Add me to the list of Mack’s satisfied customers. I have mine on a Feadog, whole different beast. I haven’t had any problems with clogging either.
Doug
I have Whitecaps on two pieces clare, copper tubing, brass tubing …
Never had a problem with clogging, a curious thing, because i have
clogging problems with all my other whistles (perehaps a climat thing).
Patrick.
And me.
I have a large fist full of Mack’s whistles, and I love every one of them. I want a couple more of them, too, but I am badly bent at this time.
I especially like my Blacktop Generation Bb tube. It is definately my favorite whistle to play.
I have some PVC suprano and aluminum low Whitecaps. They definately take less air than any whistles I have ever played. The octave may shift too soon for you until you learn to play it. It took me a good week of just keeping picking it up.
After I got the hang of them, I love to play them.
I have some tunes recorded in the free tunes link in my sig
Like everyone else who has posted, I am extremely pleased with all my Hoover whistles. And it’s always a great pleasure to talk or correspond with Mack.
You should be aware that Mack makes more than one version of his Whitecap, so you can vary the loudness and playing characteristics to some extent. Let him know what you want. But remember that his whistles tend toward a quiet, pure sound. I suspect most people will do best with his average window size, etc.
And for a little more, you can get a Blacktop if you think moisture will be a problem. (Although the soap solution fix seems to work well with Whitecaps.)
I’ll chime in here as well. I have a number of Mack’s Whitecaps on everything from tubes made by Mack to Walton’s, Feadogs and Generations. In my experience, they are uniformally great and take cheapie wistles to an entirely new level.
My Whitecap Gen is my favorite practice whistle.
Folks,
Help me out, what exactly is a “White Cap”?
And where can one get info on them?
Thanks
Freddo
Gladly! ![]()
It is either a whistle or a mouthpiece to a whistle that fits on Generation/Walton type of whistles. It looks like this:
You may find information here:

Or you may also PM Mack Hoover.
You are very welcome!!

Any idea what Mack will charge you for one of these bad boys if you send him a tube?
Whitecaps are currently listed at $30 (including shipping). Just go to his site, click “Order Whistles”, and scroll down to Whitecaps. The first two say “Mouthpiece Only”. That’s what we’re talking about.
If you’re going to put it on a regular cheapie (Generation, Feadog, Oak, etc.), then you probably won’t need to send him the tube. Just let him know what you’re planning to put it on and he can build it to fit.

Just the best thing since sliced bread.
