Hi All,
It’s been well over a year since I’ve posted here on C&F (too busy with too many things…), but during that time I’ve been purchasing several low whistles in various keys as I’ve been doing a lot of work with choral groups and string groups that live outside of the keys of D and G (thank goodness…
).
I’ve been buying all of my recent tooters through the new Hobgoblin Music store in Blaine, Minnesota, and I can not recommend them highly enough. Brittany (the store manager) is a great person to work with, and she will happily spend lots of time talking shop on the phone before you take the plunge and charge $500 worth of whistles to your credit card.
Anyway, I’m not affiliated with Hobgoblin Music in anyway, and I’ve never met Brittany in person, but I wanted to give credit where credit is due. If you are looking for a place to buy whistles, and for someone who knows their product very well, call Brittany in Blaine. She’ll treat you right.
There it is.
LW70
In the last year or so… Low D, Low Eb, Low E, Low F, Low G.
All alloy, all tunable, all made by Phil Hardy. NR & V3.
Hi All
I live in the U.K. near Bristol. I too cannot speak too highly of the staff at Hobgoblin in Park Street, Bristol.
Three weeks ago I reserved a second hand Kerry Songbird Low D online and had a reply within 15 minutes to effect that they would ‘put my name on it’ until I showed up. The following Tuesday I turned up and the person I had contacted ( Liam) was out of the shop at that time. The other assistant knew where the whistle was and said that there were two other low D’s of the same quality for me to try. I spent about 45 minutes trying these without any interference.
I will recommend H/G to any musician looking for any instrument they may require. By the way apart from being a customer I have no other business connections with them.
Ian.
P.S. So LW70 what do you think of your (I assume it’s a Chieftain) Low D
My vote is for Hobgoblin too. I’ve bought several whistles from both Brittany and her Mother in the Red Wing Store.
The last whistle I bought from Brittany was a Chieftain Gold Low D out of her private collection. She came into the store early to meet me as I was driving through town on a vacation. I thought that was pretty darn good !!!
