Hi All,

First time post as a registered user; been a non-posting lurker for many a year…

After a three year hiatus from all things whistle, I recently returned to playing again, this time focusing on the low whistles only. When I began my hiatus a few years ago, I stupidly sold or donated all of my collection, which had some very nice whistles from Overton, Burke & Silkstone.

Well, I just got my early present from Santa: a triple pack of Chieftain low’s from Hobgoblin Music in Minnesota: Low D, Low Eb, and Low E. Three bodies, one head joint.

First, let me say a HUGE thank you to the folks at Hobgoblin - once I decided on what weapons of choice I desired and placed my order for the Chieftain triple set, I had them in my hands in 48 hours. The staff at Hobgoblin was extremely helpful and courteous, and I highly recommend them to anyone. I will be their newest “repeat customer”.

Secondly, this was my first plunge into Chieftain lows… Man, these things are GREAT! I will post a review on my findings in detail later on, but suffice it to say that I am VERY pleased with the way these things play.

So, many heartfelt thanks to the folks at Hobgoblin for making me one happy Low Whistler.

I’ve never hade any dealings with Hobgoblin here or in the US
but have heard good things.
You’ll enjoy the Cheiftain,easy to get on with and gentle hole spacing.
The 3 body set is a great deal :thumbsup:

i have had a slew of good experiences with hobgoblin; they feed me tea! and the people who run our branch are oft to be found down the local session.

Be careful if you get on the mailing list for their printed catalogue. There are things you never knew you wanted to play.

The Nottingham branch has just closed down, which is a pity.

Hi LowWhistler, and welcome to C&F. Are there still two Hobgoblin locations in Mn? One in Mlps., and one at Redwing?

Hobgoblin has some great shops. I remember my pilgrimage to their original store in Crawley in 1982 to buy whistles including my first low D.

I obtained my Sweet D whistle in London’s Hobgoblin in 1985.
Its the best whistle I have and I have kept the Hobgoblin catalogue since then as a souvenir.

(BTW, I have not been to Nottingham and I am, not familiar with the, MODE of punctuation in that city. How am I, doing?)

Thanks for all the welcome aboard comments, etc. - I’m looking forward to being a participating member now.

Yeah, tell me about it… However, I made a nice donation of some prime tooters to Doc Jones to sell for his orphanage, and got a handsome tax write-off in return, so it all worked out in the end.

Just glad to have a great set of Lows back in my hands, and to be back in the whistle biz full-time.

The Minneapolis store may have closed, but a Brooklyn Center Store (north suburban Minneapolis) just had a grand opening. The “home” store is the one in Red Wing. Gary et al are good folks.

BTW - my new toys came from the Red Wing location. I should have cleared that up earlier.

A person just can’t beat that store. I bought my Harper D from there, and had it here within two days. Really nice people to deal with.
