recently saw the post on the notation for indifference, downloaded the pdf, its written for piano accordian so as you can guess I’m having zero luck with it, it might as well be in Greek with a klingon cloaking device applied to it, I remember years ago first hearing it played by a band called
Squiveut, and I found the link, which was on the whistle maker Yvon Le Coant’s web site, so its possible to play it on a whistle, it sounds a bit different, but the lively feel is still there, so does any amazingly talented play by ear guru have any idea what the notes are even just for the first part,
speaking of guru I know MTguru is super talented with transcriptions, so any help would be great even if its putting me straight regarding it as an impossible task
Funny, I actually play Indifférence in my concertina repertoire, along with a few other musette waltzes, though I can manage on whistle, too. I’ll look into a transcription for you when I have a spare moment.
your a star, I know you have helped me in the past with locating other tunes and transcribing
stuff so BIG thankyou when you get a moment to have a look.
Now that you’ve got your answer, Sponge, I’ll chip in and say that I was expecting from the thread title - half hoping - that you’d be asking for help with indifference (not the tune). Ah well, who cares, eh?
A challenge for sure, but I’d certainly put it in D rather than G. I didn’t look closely for need to fold, but I didn’t see much and the dogs in the neighborhood (and spouses and kids) will appreciate the lower range.
JC Tunefinder - search Indiffererence in G
D transcription using Easy ABC Transposer 5 down from G
That said - the C part ABC seems fairly removed from the recording - obviously not a transcription from the posted recording, but, still noted as a ‘rights required’ transcription. Not sure what that means…
It won’t effect me, as I’m ‘indifferent’ about playing/performing this particular piece. Ha!
OK, here’s my stab at a whistle-able setting of Indifférence. This is a conflation of several different recordings, including Tony Murena’s own very ornate performance ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjfvPHFYm18 ).
On whistle, when you encounter the low [B,] note, simply fold it up an octave to B. Or omit it altogether, like the whistler in sponge’s Squiveut audio clip above.
Enjoy!
