as a present for my father this christmas i am trying to transcribe a tune for him so he can play on his whistle, however i know nothing about whistle tabalature and we are both pretty music illiterate, being a guitarist all i can do is write down the notes for him but i feel he will struggle, thesong is blackhall rocks by the battlefield band and i need to transcribe it in the key of c. any help would be grateful
i have searched for the “official” music for it for over a year and have drawn a blank.
please email me with any suggestions.
thankyou
I think the music for this tune might be included in the “Battlefield Band” songbook which they used to have in our local library. I’ll see if I can find it for you tonight. Because the Northumbrian pipes which Ged Foley plays are pitched in “F”, you’d need to play it on a “C” whistle, although once you get the fingering in “C”, there’s nothing to stop you transferring it onto a whistle in “D”.
Only bad luck, I’m afraid. I did manage to get the “Battlefield Band” book, but that particular tune is not in it. Sorry I can’t help in time. I think I have a recording of the tune, and might be able to post an abc transcription next week, if that’s of any use. Hope this doesn’t spoil your Christmas. All the best.
This font can be used like any other font in a word processorit will appear in your font listings as “Penny Whistle”. Below is a keyboard map, showing which keys correspond with which notes. Feel free to use it as a reference; simply {right click} on the image and save it to the directory of your choice. It can be viewed or printed using your browser.
If you have MS Word set to capitalize the first letter of every sentence this font will give the tab for the upper octave of the first note. After you type in a few more notes you can go back and correct it…unless of course you happen to want the upper octave note. Also, MS Word will unline “mis-spellings”. So if you type in the notes “deed”, it won’t underline it becase it looks like a word, but “degb” will get underlined in red.
Also, you can install the font easily using drag and drop. Download it, then use the split screen explore format (excuse my weak computer-ese) to drag it into the Font folder, which is in the Control Panel folder.
