Having many years of musical experience…much of it at the electronic level..I thought I would get a bit earthy in my old…er age and so decided to go for the whistle. Did my research..got iy a bit wrong I think…bought the Overton low D…real hard work..had about six weeks and am getting into it okay..ish.Quite happy to settle for that and reading views and reviews on C&F. Worst thing I could have done…A Susato high D and a Chieftan F followed quickly…now a Burke High D , DBSBT and an Alba Alto G are on their way to me.Never thought I could behave like this at 65…but I use my age and the fact that I might pop my clogs soon to rationalize my spending.I am a very happy addict though!!!.

I was 61 when I started a year back. Now I have 18 whistles (and a flute). I did have 20, but I’ve given one away and destroyed one by trying to turn it into a shakuhachi.
A word of warning: Don’t get sucked into the political/religious and other totally off-topic threads. I did, and while this has really pumped up my post count, it’s distracted me from whistle acquisition. I bet I could have at least 40 whistles by now if I hadn’t been so foolish. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

I understand: I have acquired 19 whistles, been taking lessons, corresponded with some great folks, spent lots of time reading C&F, purchased many great CD’s, and been having an absolute blast doing all of it since starting to play the whistle just about a year ago. I’m only 49 years old (so my clogs feel tight on my feet). At the rate I’m going, I could have 323 whistles by the time I’m 65.
Your heirs should be grateful that you aren’t addicted to Uilleann Pipes.
Lets hear it for us over 60s. I will be 66 in February and I am waiting for an order to come in now. Don’t overlook some of the cheap whistles. I have several under $10 whistles that are great. You need one for every mood. They definitely have different sounds, different playing characteristics, different appearance, etc. I am getting more selective in what I buy. I have a want list that is far longer than my money available list.
