I have been playing tinwhistles for less than 4 months and already have 2, one on layaway and am seriously considering a WaterWeasel.
Am I an extreme case of Whoa? How many whistles do you have???
No, it sounds like you have a mild case. I myself have been playing less than 6 months and have 6 whistles, one on the way, and two being planned for as soon as I can afford it. But there are others who have been here longer who have 70 or more whistles.

I have 30 but they are all cheap or homemade whistles. Even with 30 whistles, I consider my WHOA under control because I used to have another 30 that were expensive and my WHOA was driving me to the poor house.
We joke a lot about WHOA on the board but it really can be a problem and can cause personal and financial ruin.

I have been playing about half a year, and I have 9. They’re all cheapie whistles, but that’s still somewhere between 50-100 bucks worth of whistle sitting in my room…
I have 9 plus one on order, but I already had 4 of them before Whoa developed - one I got in the mid '90s and a set of three susatos in 1998 that I forgot about for two years. How much have I actually spent on whistles since 2001 (onset of Whoa)?

Reading about all of the different whistles does make me want to try some (all) of them. Unfortunately,(or perhaps fortunately) I can’t afford to indulge my WhOA. I guess I’ll have to be satisfied with the ones I already have. It’s only a SMALL jar full of whistles. (2 Clarke originals, a Susato, an Oak and several Sweetones.)
I’ve played one of the Sweetone D’s so much that all of the finish is worn off around the holes. Fortunately for me, I REALLY like this whistle. Once it’s warmed up it sounds very pleasant.
I think I’ll wait until I am a much better (read…almost decent) player before buying an expensive or semi-expensive whistle. It would be very discouraging to spend a lot of money on a whistle and find out that I don’t play any better on it.
I have a feadog, a generation, a Clare 2 piece, a homemade high and low D and a low D from Mack hoover. No plans on buying any others, just want to get better with the ones I have

A year or so ago, Lee Marsh and I were unofficially competing to see who could be first to amass a full set of high Overtons. Truth be told, though, that was before most of our whistling brethren found eBay.
