Heard De Danaan...met Cramer!

Hello all.

I’m in Quebec City for a couple of weeks and just finished listening to De Danaan. What a treat! Frankie Gavin is quite the talent. Loved that flute. These guys showed a tremendous amount of energy and the crowed was whipped into a frenzy by the time it was over. The group of folks travelling with me all agreed that this concert was the best they had experienced at the Festival d’~{(&~}te de Qu~{(&~}bec, though I hate to admit that we all missed Dervish due to an unforgivable scheduling conflict.

But wait, there’s more…I met Cramer at the De Danaan concert!! Despite his forewarning that he’s a relative beginner on the whistle, he ripped off a few great passages on my tweaked Clarke and turned a few heads of the folks who were waiting for the show to begin. Ah, modesty…

Anyway, if you get a chance to catch De Danaan, I highly recommend it.

Sounds like you had a great time!

Dervish is coming to Tulsa, along with Isla St. Clair and her Ceilidh Band, Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill, Gaelic Storm, and Danú. I don’t know anything about any of these folks, but would like to take my mom to see one show at least. Any thoughts on them? What are their music styles?

Kim

I love Dervish. I wish they’d come to CA.

OK, you higher life forms can crucify me now.

I’m looking forward to hearing De Danaan at the festival here next weekend. I think they are the only Irish group this year, but there will be loads of other good music, including David Francey, who everyone is talking about.

I love Montreal, but am glad to be in Vancouver this month. Have a good time, though, jeferson.

Oh…Martin Hayes! I really love his style, really gets my heartstrings going (pun intended). Though I’ve never heard him play fast music…as in like, maybe breakneck speed. I’ve never seen the duo live, but have heard numerous CDs and if I get a chance, I won’t let it go

Heard a rumour around town that a fiddle belonging to Dervish’s fiddler was stolen at the end of their visit in Quebec City. Not sure if it’s the case. Just the thought of it makes me shudder, though.

Make sure to booty on over to hear Hayes and Cahill, and Danu.Skip Gealic Storm(rent Titanic instead).
