Hi All,
I just wanted to make you all insanely jealous by telling you that I’ve been to see Mike McGoldrick and John McSherry at a local cross cultural music festival, http://www.giginthebann.com .in a local vilage, Portglenone. Absolutely fantastic, I’m still buzzing three hours later. John played pipes mostly with some whistle, Mike, mostly flute, some whistle and a pipe duet with John, Karen Casey came on and done a few songs as well. Mike is unbelievable on flute, I don’t know whether to put my whistles and flute in the bin or practice 24 hours a day!! Oh all right I’ll practice. Roll on Sunday, I’m off work, give me the Kerry Pro! By the way, if you don’t already own “At First Light” What are you waiting for?
Hey MacEachain,
Glad to hear you enjoyed the show. I was at the Mid-Ulster Folk Festival in Dromore a couple of years ago (my mate from Templepatrick was giving a piping recital) and saw John McSherry there. There used to be a great trad band from Portglenone called Deanta. Sadly, they broke up a few years ago. They had a good flute player named Deirdre Havlin. Do you know what she’s up to now?

Whoa! Deanta broke up?? I had no idea. Hrmm.. I’m interested in what happened to Deirdre Havlin as well. Nice flute tone.
Hi Paul,
funny you should mention Deirdre Havlin, she was taking the Flute workshop. I enquired about it but felt that I would’nt have been up to the required standard. I’ve no idea what she’s up to now though. I see that she’s featured on the wooden flute obsession CD.

She’s been doing some performances and workshops in Ireland. At my prodding, she’s indicated she should do a solo CD. I’d be glad to help, if I can. Deanta is the supergroup that never happened. If they had ever toured the U.S., they would now be classed with Lunasa & Danu.
Errrr… thats not fair. Just because I live in a remote area doesnt mean anything. All I wanted to do was to see McGoldrick and McSherry. My heros. They wont know that until I cant tell them will they???
