Heading out to Ireland Tonight!

Well

I am of to Ireland for the fleadh on the 24th in Tullamore. I am competing on guitar and in the ceili band set with the Old Bay Ceili Band from the D.C./ baltimore area. Wish us luck!

Goooo Josh! (& don’t forget to have fun!)

Goooo Josh! (& don’t forget to have fun! ) (and take a few CDs with you)

You know, if that ceili band only had a halfway decent drummer they might actually have a chance.

Good luck, man! Knock em dead. Kick butt. Lay villages to waste.

Hate to put a dampener on it but make sure you bring yer raincoat .. one of the wettest ā€˜summers’ here in recent years!!!
We went to see the ā€˜mad fiddler’ Martin Hayes and Denis Cahill, the other night in Kilkenny and I wouldn’t have stirred out except we’d bought tickets. Like driving through a monsoon!!! Martin was great though - I was glad to see/ hear him in a live performance - what energy!

Hope to see you there Josh

David

Hey yaw’ll

Well it is just as wet and overly rainy than normal. It has been a blast and we are still 6 days away from Sunday :astonished:

Best of luck, Josh.

I’m missing a piper I play with – disappeared to Ireland about a week ago… Young American lad, long braid… If you see him, send him home… we have a gig in two weeks…

SOunds like a blast Josh. Knock 'em dead.

Is that a boxwood Olwell you’re playing? Spent some time on your site and your myspace page. Nice playing.

Doc

Just saw the Fleadh results. Congratulations on your second, Josh! That’s terrific! You done good.

Hey Doc thanks for your nice comments. It is a boxwood Patrick/Aaron special. I love it. Man they make some great flutes.

We all played great. It was our first time for the Ceili band comp so we learned a great deal. We will be heading back next year to improve on this years attempt. Anyone else here in a Ceili band?

Cathy

How are things? I was excited playing in the Accompaniment competition. :astonished:

It was pretty neve racking!!! :astonished: :astonished: :astonished:

Lovely music on your myspace page, Josh. And congrats for the second! Keep it going!

Bravo! and thanks for the tunes

Hey, Josh!

I’m admiring the heck out of our flute on your mypace page, oh when it was young and new and yellower. And  I dry the tenons just like that!

I love your Jim D’s set – I have the Olwell lashing away at the busier (aka McGoldrick’s ā€œTunesā€ version) of Donoghue’s for one of our groups’ Irish fest gigs this year but I suspect it will be nowhere near as elegant as your go. Ah well, I’ll keep plodding – I can’t not!

I was in the ceili band at Augusta a couple of years ago with Mick Mulcahy but outside that the closest I get is when I’m lucky to play up here some with Beverly Buchanan and Dan Cummins. Nothing formal, but when we get a guy out with the woodblock & snare plus some fiddles and who knows who all else it’s like going back in history – some of my favorite music times ever. I’d love to be able to get something like that together; I bet you learned a WHOLE LOT about all the tricky stuff we punters never think about.

Anyway, I’m having great big fun here in part thanks to you, and hope to get up your way sometime soon. I’m thrilled your new flute is so lovely, too (would we expect any less?). I’m so very happy for you; good things to good people cheer me enormously.

All the best to you and your family and your delightful baby girl. She’s getting as pretty as her mother already!

cat.

Sorry to hijack the thread - but what killer tracks!

Thanks so much Gab!!!
