Harry Bradley CD on ebay

I’m nothing to do with the seller but I just noticed this while browsing a few minutes ago. This is a great CD from Harry & no bids yet. I’ve already got a copy. Closes in a couple of hours.

If I’d seen that earlier I would have made a bid myself. I don’t own a copy in all honesty.

Last I heard The Dubliners own it as part of a settlement made with Outlet Records over unpaid royalties… poor fellas.

I think that somebody wrapped their kid’s lunch in my Outlet ‘contract’ a looong time ago.

Regards,

Harry.

It went for a song too. A shame someone didn’t notice earlier. A very fine CD IMO.

Ah, but Harry, it could be so much worse. You could be a troll stuck churning out crap for Sony…Remember what happened to George Michael?

Well worth having “Bad turns…” There are some good tunes on this CD. We (fiddle & flute) learnt “Davy Maguire’s” off the CD just before Willie Week this year. It’s a happy, lively tune, but when we played it at some of the sessions, no one seemed to know the tune, but they asked for the name, and where did we get the tune from. I gather from the liner notes that Davy Maguire is a flute player, right? Does anyone know more about him, Harry? Is he still alive?, did he write the tune? or is it a tune he has from someone else with another name?

Davy McGuire is a Belfast flute player. He introduces Jean-Michel Veillon on the CD Beo! (Live in Belfast). I have an email address for him if you wish.

Kevin Krell

Davy Maguire is my flute teacher, well and truly alive and kickiing! He plays a Hamilton with an odd head, well its different than most Hamilton head joints, having a raised embouchure part. He is a fine player indeed!!
Davy has had an influence on many of the current top northern/Belfast players.

David

Thanks Kevin & David. I’ll pass on the e-mail, thanks. Just wondered if the tune Davy Maguire’s has another name, or if it was composed by him. The answer is prehaps in the liner notes, I’ll have a look when I get home.

I’ll rip a copy for you if you want.

I love this CD.

Thomas,

Davy didn’t write the tune. Frankie Kennedy used to play it and I seem to recall that it is a version of the popular dance tune “Love Would you Marry Me…?”. Several Belfast players had it but I particularly remember getting it off Davy in a session.

Regards,

H.

Davy Maguire is a great flute player from Belfast, I played with him in session a few weeks back. He has done alot for music in Belfast and has inspired me, top musician and top bloke.

I bought a flute from a girl who takes lessons with him. As I recall, her exact description of his playing was “fab.” (Or maybe “brill.”)

I learned “Love Will You Marry Me” (aka “Davey McGuire’s” ?) as a fling. Is that how Harry plays it?

 … Well duh, Cath. Whyncha buy the CD and find out?

just few words of davy maquires tune. he was my teacher in san benedetto folk festival in italy 2001 and 2002.on festival 2001 he teached us davy maguire tune under the name francis mooney’s highland. francis mooney is (was?) margharet ( altan) mooney father i supose.
davy said to us that he havent any clue why harry called this tune as davy maguires.he played this tune in little slower tempo, but with little more swing.
davy is really great player and best teacher that i have so far, and really great man on general.
his playing is present on just cd’s ( as i know).first is o’aces ,with martin dowling and jason o 'rourke among others and on few tracks from ray gallen solo album( really great album!

Francie and Mairead were both on Ceili House last month so you can probably use the present tense (not to suggest that being on Ceili House defines one’s existence).

Cheers,
