Har har har har..test yer skills!

Yep … I mentioned this a few months ago, and some people posted their results:

2.25 hz. I think I could dial it in a bit more with further attempts, but why bother. I’m happy with that score.

Yup. 1.95 with the help of a q-tip.

oops  sorry…
o well…more useless cyberspace.

Not at all! It will be interesting to see more results.

Well, I got down to 0.375hz after 16.5 oz of 2002 merlot. (thus the unCHasRlike ā€œHar,harā€ biz..)
The visual test is pretty interesting.

Wahh..I only got 1.5…but I’m sure I’d a done better with one of those big old glasses of merlot. I’d feel better about it anyway. :moreevil:

I did the adaptive thing 3 times, and kept getting 1.05. I’m not sure I understand what it’s supposed to mean (?).

djm

It means you’re a 1.05, obviously. Woo hoo! Hey, so am I. Woo hoo!

It also means you can detect the pitch difference between 500.00 Hz and 501.05 Hz. That amounts to 3.6 cents.

I was consistently getting 0.75 correct, but every time it went to 0.375 I’d get it wrong.

I got a 1.125. Thing I wonder is whether a loss of acuity that is normal to aging has much effect on this subtle pitch differentiation thing.
I confess that as the process advanced I would listen to some of them multiple times because it took that for my ears and brain to sync.
But it’s a definite that high frequencies become less perceptible to aging ears, and that could effect results.

Well, there was the optional demographic info. There may be some info related to age/acuity that I didn’t investigate.

(sorry, couldn’t resist)

good catch too. I’m generally so aware of my vulnerability there I can’t type either of the possibilities without stopping to consider.
Fingers got ahead of brain. Not difficult. Clumsy as my fingers are.

As a display of humility, I won’t even fix it.

Probably so. I’ve read of high schoolers using a ring tone in class that’s at a high pitch that adults can’t hear.

1.3 something. Not too bad. I’m at work, so merlot is not an option.

It would have been interesting if there was a ā€œsameā€ option. Is being able to tell if a pitch is high or low the same as telling if it is ā€œoffā€?
