6 Minute Pitch Perception Test

Ok this is cool:

I scored 91.7.

See how you do.

77.8. I was expecting to do rather better.
I’ll try again after some sleep and caffeine. In that order.

72.2
Hurrah! I’m Normal!

Ha! Now I have some ammunition. I can TELL them I’m normal! I have PROOF!
I’ll teach them to make cracks …mutter …mutter…

This is, apparently for me, more a psychology test than a tone perception test. I expected it to try to fool me with hairline differences the first time I took it and supposed that I heard fractional differences in some of the chords. I chose different in the vast majority of cases. I scored an impressive 69.something or other. Then I took it again, (I’ll acknowledge that this could be construed as cheating,) deciding to pick different only when I definitely heard an out of joint tone, and assuming that it wasn’t trying to measure my perception to the millihair. That time I scored 91.7. I’m not at all sure what this says about my tone perception. Apparently I can tell the difference between the obvious mismatches and the matches. But I’m also subject to psyching myself into imagining differences where there are none.

Doesn’t work for me. :frowning:

If I’m normal why am I having such a hard time learning to play?

83.3% Correct

Wow! Now if I could just manage to get that accuracy to hold from my input files to my output files.

I’ve discovered that you can get a completely different randomly generated set of sequences if you try it again.

That was hard! I got an 89.something.

It is difficult. I think I would score better if there were a way to repeat. Without that, the variables of short term memory and attention span are not eliminated.

Folks, don’t put too much stock in it, either way.

It’s just a fun thing, not a serious one.

Well, I had a rough start with the first couple trying to figure out what constituted a “phrase” and how those darned buttons worked, but I ended up with an 83.3.

I got a 2. No wonder I can’t play musical instruments.

75, but having my son playing the built-in tunes on a Yamaha keyboard in the background might have skewed things a bit – after a while, everything sounded like a jazz version of “Greensleeves”…

94.4 here. I don’t know which ones I missed. I would have expected much better being such a conceited person and all.

75% - not bad considering I’m inebriated, stuffed and being subjected to the wild kid’s screaming in the courtyard. Although, perhaps the two large tankards of chianti with shrimp fra diavalo over linguini actually improved my performance?

I tried it again with my favorite headphones and only got 83. Is it me or the headphones? I would have thought the headphones provided more clear sound.

86.1%

I’m happy with that.

that’s what I got…I was using the excuse that my son was pestering me for a snack as my excuse as to why I didn’t do better. I was thinking of trying again when he wasn’t pestering me, but then I wouldn’t have a good excuse if I didn’t improve

It would be interesting to see whether Chiffers, who as a group have a particular interest in music, would score higher on average, or the same, as a group of people whose common interest is, eg, carpentry or something.
p.s.–pestering children are not recommended as background noise. Nor can I endorse husbands watching 40’s musicals on tv in the next room. Ginger Rogers (or whoever it was) launching into song just as the computer starts singing “boing boing bing boing, bing boing, bong bong bong bong,” is likely to result in one of your lower scores.
