Hammy back in the 'day'

great stuff here…Hammy, looks like a Pratten there? apparently with a few “objectionable” keys removed?

Lovely. Interesting take on that first tune. I’ve heard it and played it either double, with the first part twice as long as in that clip, or fully single, with the second part not repeated. IOW, with the parts the same length, but here the second part is played twice as long as the first. What do other people do with this tune?

Thanks for posting, David. It’s a nice start to the day.

I wonder why the recording is in Eb. Is that an Eb flute and a C/C# Hohner box they were playing, or is that video sped up by 6%?

I believe Hammy commented on this clip when it came up on his blog. Yes, he really did have hair ‘in the day!’. The flute he described as being thrown together from several parts for the occasion, so yes, it is a Eb, sort of. . .

Yes, thanks for this.

Never occurred to me, when I still did such things as smoke a pipe, that a nice curved Peterson might just about rest on the fiddle’s body. Perhaps the smoke will preserve the fiddle for future generations?

I learned it from Réalta, who play it fully single.

Nice clip, thanks!

The pipe is a nice touch!
