Hammy on the tellie

Tg4’s Ar fud na tíre just had a nice little item on Hammy Hamilton.

I assume it will be available on the TG4 player shortly.

Interview starts 9 minutes into the show.

Thanks Peter, could see it alright here in Sweden, no problem. Interesting to hear Hammy talking about his craft and to see his workshop

Thanks Mr. Gumby!

The last thing he says is that he’s interested in passing on his craft to the next generation. Does that mean he’s taken on an apprentice?

Does that mean he’s taken on an apprentice?

Not as far as I know, still he is always ready to give the best advice, and his blog and his website (and his flute maintenance DVD) are a very good source of information! (Blog link http://hammy-flutemaker.blogspot.it/)

That was great! In addition to hearing some nice flute playing, you get to see Hammy at work, see how his workshop is set up, and hear about his life. Its very well done. Thanks for posting the link!

By the way, for the navigationally challenged (like me!), the way to find this video is to follow this link:

Then click on the “music” link. Then select the “Ar fud na tíre” program. Then fast forward to 9 minutes into the program.

Excellent directions paddler. I would add only only that you are looking for episode 4 of Ar fud na tíre.
And thank you to Mr. Gumby for calling attention to this new program series.

Bob

And I am in it

So you are! Very cool.

Right! It is always informative to sneak a peek into a shop and see a flute maker at work.

I wonder how long the blade on that spindle gouge was originally? That one’s been sharpened quite a few times by the look of it.

Thanks for posting the link.

And I think you can see the back of my head and one of my greyer streaks too…

Very nice report - thanks for posting the link.

Could someone identify the tune Mr. Hamilton is playing beginning at the 15:40 mark?

Thanks and best wishes.

Steve

Oh, surely someone must know…

Best wishes.

Nice to hear hammy play for the first time for me. My wifi is not man enough at this time of the day to watch the programme properly. I shall watch it early tomorrow before our American friends wake up. Thanks for the link to the programme. Jlpsix

Thanks very much for all the positive comments about the Ar Fud na Tíre program ( it means Throughout the Country or Nationwide BTW)
The tune is The Mayo Lasses, ( I think that’s the one, can’t remember what else I played)
The spindle gouge I bought in 1978, when it was about a foot longer than it now is…
Not much left in it now, I’m going to miss it when it goes.
All the Best
Hammy

 I guess that says it all. “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.”
