Grinter Whistles

Sound amazing. Especially when played by Lunasa.

Anyway, does anyone know anything about these whistles? There was a topic about these a while back but all we established is that they’re made in Australia. I really can’t find anything else. I’d really like to learn more about these bad boys

Michael Grinter has a healthy waiting list. But if you’re OK with the wait (and the price tag) - best to contact him through his website:

I have seen a few of his whistles around the place - and they are truly awesome.

His flutes are nice also, as are his recorders.

I have a feeling most whistles will sound amazing when played by the guys from Lúnasa.

There’s something special about Grinters. It may be the narrow bore – they’re incredibly responsive. It may be the all-wood construction – no metal in the airway so the sound is warm and they’re very resistant to clogging. The sound is sweet but not too sweet, never shrill, has a nice amount of chiff but isn’t airy at all.

Last I knew a high-D was $240, which is probably now 240 euro, I think G and F were 300.

Man that’s expensive. And anything Lunasa plays will sound great, but I’ve become obsessed with Grinter and Swayne whistles because of Lunasa. Maybe some saving is in order.
