I recently had a chance to try out a Grinter blackwood at the West Coast Fall C&F Debutante Ball and Celeidh. Niiiiice…you can really crank out a reedy bottom end on the one I tried. What have been other people’s experience?

I play a Grinter 8-keyed flute. I´ve have tried a couple of other Grinters as well as Olwells, Wilkes, Murrays and others. The Grinter flutes are really nice intsruments and the quality is extremely high and even. The keyes are working really well (even low c and c#) It´s just your own skills that puts the limits (the trouth can be quite depressing some times ) The final reson to why I ordered a Grinter is the sound of it. It can be loud and brutal and soft and beautiful, It´s all up to the player!
Sorry, don’t have any photos…was too busy drooling to take a picture. Tony Higgins, do you happen to remember who the owner was? Maybe they can post one. It was a yummy flute…and no, I didn’t spank the flute (aw man that just sounds totally non PC) …but I did talk to it a lot when noone was looking.

Friend of mine just won a Grinter off ebay. It is a brilliant flute. I stopped
having FAD after getting an Olwell, but trying this one made me wish I
had a Grinter too. It plays very easily but is full and with a great edge.

I am listening to a CD with a Grinter on it right now see if you can guess. I love the sound.
I just noticed this thread today, otherwise I would have gotten these out sooner. The flute in question would be mine I have to say, I’m rather fond of it, myself. So anyway, here are some pics for you all. As for spanking, well, cough some things are just plain best left unmentioned. Better the flute than me, though!
Out of curiosity, how much does your Grinter weigh? My wife’s 8-key comes in at about 15 oz/425 g. It’s the only thing we don’t like about it; I’m just wondering if his flutes are all heavy or whether the keys actually add a noticeable amount.
Brendan Mulholland and I swapped flutes for several sets when Craobh Rua played here and then sessioned with us; his Grinter is a lovely thing, delicate yet powerful. I enjoyed it greatly.
He seemed to enjoy my Hamilton quite a bit as well.
He’s a wonderful player and a wonderful person.

The Grinter flutes are great and are very well made and very much in tune with themselves. I have played one now for 2 years and love it, the tone from it is by far the best I have heard in a while. Mike is a great guy to deal with and is very informative and reliable.
