Best wishes.

I tried one of Glenn Schultz Flutes, I’d say about 15 years ago , it was OK, but had a very weak low D. It was rosewood with headpiece , left hand section and right hand section with an integral foot.
Some makers Flutes can be bought unplayed and you know you’ll get a great Flute. If you were thinking about getting one of his Flutes, I’d try before you buy.

Ben,

This flute is around the same age. It is blackwood, with a tuning slide, silver rings, and is in four sections. It is a large-holed Rudall type model. This is part of a trade/cash deal for my Hudson Pratten. I still have the wonderful Firth, Pond & Co. flute (which I mostly play), and the Abell hj to go with it. The owner claims he likes it better than the boxwood Olwell he just sold. Can’t really respond to that!

I got to work a little with Glenn before he passed (r.i.p.) on his flutes and liked where he was going with them. some of his earlier ones were interesting.
remember, too, that Glenn wasn’t a flute player…he was accordion. His daughter was the flute player in the family.
nice fellow, too, though a bit eccentric at times…which is what made him interesting.

Hi. I’m new to this forum. Great stuff – very entertaining and educational. Edutainment? Entercation? Something like that.

I bought one of Glenn’s flutes shortly before he passed away. It’s beautiful D in (I believe) cocus. It’s no Olwell or Grinter, but it has a rich, smoky sound, and we are having a lot of fun together. I’ve had no issues with the low D and find it pretty responsive across its whole range, but I guess as with any flute, YMMV.
